Huge congratulations to Emma Ballard on a fantastic first-time driving test pass in Rushden with driving instructor Gary Desborough.

Passing first time is a huge milestone, and this one is well deserved.

"I passed first time today with Gary as my instructor. I really enjoyed our lessons and made so much progress in a short space of time. He helped calm my nerves and was amazing and supportive week in week out. Highly recommend!"

One of the biggest wins here: Emma didn't have the best preparation just before her test as the examiner didn't think her picture on her provisional licence was her, after a lot of studying they still decided to take the test..

Instructor insight: Considering what Emma had to deal with before her test she had a great drive and passed first time today. I felt the examiner took her on her own random route following road signs, she held her nerves well. So happy it worked out for Emma in the end, congratulations 🎉.

I had manual lessons with Driving Skills Academy in Northampton with Chris. Before starting, I was struggling with bay parking. What helped me most was Practicing outside of lessons. Things really started to click when talked through my driving and what I was seeing around me. By the end, I passed first try. I would definitely recommend Driving Skills Academy to everyone.

🚨 Important warning for learner drivers

The DVSA is taking stronger action against unofficial driving test bookings and those misusing the booking system.

So far, it has:

❌ Cancelled 450 driving tests
🔒 Suspended 4,034 online booking accounts
📱 Reported and removed 17 unofficial booking apps

Tests may be cancelled if they were booked or managed outside the official rules, including bookings linked to payment cards used for large numbers of different learners.

To protect your test and your personal information:

✅ Only use the official GOV.UK website
✅ Do not buy tests through social media
✅ Avoid unofficial booking apps and websites
✅ Never share your driving licence details with someone you do not trust
✅ Speak to your Driving Skills Academy instructor if you are unsure

From 12 May 2026, only the learner driver can book, change, swap or cancel their driving test online. This is designed to make the system fairer and help genuine learners access test appointments.

Your test could have taken months to secure. Do not risk losing it by using an unofficial seller.

Keep it legal. Keep your test.

🎉 A fantastic achievement for the Driving Skills Academy team! 🎉

Today, Adrian, Chris, Dan B, Dan N and Gary all successfully passed their Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work assessments and final test.

A special mention goes to Chris and Gary, who both achieved an outstanding 100% score on their final tests. 👏

A huge thank you to Barry Hunt from UK Training for delivering such an excellent, practical and engaging course. The training was informative, enjoyable and gave the team greater confidence to respond effectively in an emergency.

For our learners, this means you are being taught by instructors who are not only committed to helping you become safe, confident drivers, but who are also better prepared should an emergency happen during a lesson or out on the road.

Our instructors are also now even better placed to support learners with the newer first aid questions in the theory test, helping them understand the reasons behind the answers rather than simply memorising them.

For anyone considering becoming a driving instructor, this is another example of the training, support and professional development available through Driving Skills Academy.

🚨 Important DVSA Driving Test Booking Change from tomorrow, 9 June 2026 🚨

From tomorrow, learner drivers will no longer be able to move their car driving test to any test centre they like.

Under the new DVSA rules, when changing your test, you can only:

✅ Stay at the same test centre
✅ Move to one of the 3 nearest test centres
✅ Move back to the test centre you first booked at

This means it’s now more important than ever to book your test at the right centre from the start and speak to your instructor before making changes.

For our local learners, these are the centres you can move to:

📍 If your test is booked at Northampton:
• Wellingborough
• Kettering
• Rugby

📍 If your test is booked at Kettering:
• Wellingborough
• Northampton
• Bedford

📍 If your test is booked at Wellingborough:
• Kettering
• Northampton
• Bedford

This change is designed to stop people booking tests in random areas and then trying to move them later. It should help make the system fairer, but it also means learners need to plan carefully.

At Driving Skills Academy, we’ll always help you make sensible decisions about your test timing, test centre and readiness.
