There are no practical tests available, help!

How can you get your practical test booked when there don't appear to be any available at your local test centre for months in advance! 🤔

So, the best way to do this is as follows: Book a practical test anywhere in the country on the DVSA website so you have a valid booking in the system. Download the Testi app (currently costs around £12 one off charge). Enter your booked test details and select which test centre you want to move it to. Testi will then search for both cancellations and new tests at your chosen centre and notify you when one is available. Even if it's a few months away, move it over anyway, as you can always change the date again via the app if necessary.

It may seem like the long way round, but with a bit of patience it works really well to get you the date and test centre you want 😃👍

8 new changes to the Highway code...

What are they, and why are they important? Well even though these changes were made in Jan this year, they have not been well publicised or understood.

They mainly cover which road users have priority in different situations. Pedestrians and cyclists especially now have greater priority when interacting with other vehicles on the road. As car drivers we need to be fully aware of this, so as to keep ourselves and all other road users safe. We may go faster or have more power in a car, but it doesn't mean we have priority!

Rules for all types of road users have been updated in The Highway Code to improve the safety of people walking, cycling and riding horses.

Someone asked me today, what about intensive courses, are they a good idea?

So, should you learn to drive on a 1 week intensive course? Everyone is different and while it may work ok for some students, the majority of people benefit from a more gradual learning process where knowledge is reinforced and increased on a regular basis. To build your skills and experience we recommend a maximum of 3 x 2hr lessons p/w to allow time to assimilate information steadily in between.

That way you can reduce the overall learning time from 5-6 months to around 8 weeks while still progressing with your driving goals in a safe and consistent way 😊👍🚙🎓
