Nearly in danger of too much blue lately but then again workshop stills only go so far.
This is the first time the car turned a wheel whereas usually we at least get a brief drive prior to rolling road set up.
Trying two different turbo chargers back to back with all our previous mods of late worked very well and made all the puff we wanted. The car worked throughout and we never take this for granted especially when arriving green!
Tomorrow onto a finish list and road testing which will certainly be lively given the fast torque ramp up and currently making 230bhp on KJet with plenty in hand.

Set up day and not got the patience of old days. 5 or 6 hours of front end castor, camber and toe juggling to get where we want using the old Dunlop gauges, string and ruler. This is still king though as you always understand where we have been and going and importantly why. We are not just aiming red and green datum points on a screen, although I may have wanted to from time to time.

Weighed in at 876kgs so comfortably sub 900 which was always the target and should give a pretty strong power to weight ratio around a modern AMG45 or BMW M2. Sadly pushed for timescales or the dampers would have been DeCarbon replica but that’s for next time, let’s get it to the rolling road and out on road test for some full send.

The Olympus blue Renault 5 turbo edges closer to rolling road deadline next week and it has gone together beautifully so far.
Already sits stanced like a different beast to when it arrived and this is first time floor hit so we got our damper lengths and springs spot on. Looking forward to road testing and trying out the new damper/spring package amongst other things developed since the last build.
Workshop betting on engine power likely begins soon as we circumnavigate 240bhp possibilities which in one of these is rapid and impressive on Kjet.

A year ago we lit up the local roads in a pair of 5 turbo and loved every minute in the pointless exercise of simply taking an hour out to enjoy them together. Very soon we will go again to bed in the blue cars rebuild and this time around it will be closer matched!

As much as I think some alfresco racing would be cool the Le Mans hardtop will be fitted when all the internal work is done but for the pub in the summer get the lid off!

You see the glossy images of cars in bits but rarely what impact a properly sorted 5 turbo hits like. Thanks to taking one for the team during the Renault 5 turbo book launch, you can.
I lit him up a bit in the Cup car but not too much as his dad was waiting back at base for him to be safely returned.
The Cup car was running around 290bhp and despite his menial weight he still hurt the power to weight ratio!

Cobra closing - amongst the Renault 5 turbo fever lately the Cobra has been ticking away and reckon it’s getting closer to a Friday fire up just not this one or the next but maybe the one after 😂 We are awaiting dashboard return from trimmers, then gauges and loom to make it alive. It’s actually consumed a lot of time to delete as much as possible so looks unfinished but there is not much left on the shelf.

1800km Renault 5 Turbo needs no filters - this going back together now after a complete strip and reassembly. This is no retrim car which is sadly so common now, the carpet is original and astounding with all the cast pieces and ply exactly as they should be and something the trim kits cannot replicate. Stunning to behold as these cars don’t age well, to see one as beautiful as this where all can be carefully cleaned and restored back to splendour is in my experience so far unique.
This will also be running 220bhp or more with our upgrade suspension package including dampers and roll bars and hot weather cooling package for its life back in Provence.
Deadline looming so need focus now amongst all else going on as these are never easy to get right.

Went to see the Ferrari engine build today and check up on progress, found it all beautifully in order and as expected complex in components and castings. Always intrigued to see them in raw form laid out and this also satisfies my ocd, can’t say I am not excited to get this back as we miss the big V12 noise.
