We've been waiting for a part to arrive before we could carry out the repair on this 1750TBi. It was booked in with an oil pressure fault. The car arrived with EML on. Many faults in the system. Our customer informed us it had a previous oil switch change elsewhere and the garage told the customer oil had tracked up into the ECU.
We carried out an oil pressure check from cold and when warm, tick over and higher revs. We had a lower pressure than we expected. We had timing issues. Cam and crank shaft correlation, variator rattle / chattering and many other faults.
Eventually we had all the parts we may need. We didn't want to get the car stuck on the ramp for days / weeks partially stripped down. We had an auto electrician come in to double check the wiring and check the car had all the correct feeds. The ECU was opened and checked. No oil found inside. We then started the strip down. We found debris in the oil pick up feed. We disassembled the sump and thoroughly cleaned. A new oil pump was fitted (with seal) cambelt change (with correct locking tools). New variators. The car fired up and is silent. No oil pressure issues. We are thoroughly testing the car over the weekend.
Possibly the nicest (engine) driving 1750TBi we've driven in a long time.
We are selling more and more variators for 1750TBi engined cars. They seem to be getting to the age where they are tiring and wearing out.

Another busy week in the workshop.
We managed to get the 2.2 Stelvio finished. Cleaned inlet manifold, cam belt, water pump, oil segregator, auxiliary belt tensioner and idler. This has been a stressful job!
Giulietta suspension work on 2 cars. Both with incorrectly fitted springs.
Giulietta service and reconditioned from calipers. Stelvio and Mito services.
We are still working on a Brera Prodrive from Hereford! Major work being carried out.

For the last couple of weeks we've been fighting a GT 3.2 cam belt and water pump change. (The last fault amazed us) Our customer warned us there maybe issues as he had a reciept from a previous belt change. We are finding with these V6 cars that because they have had many belt changes by now, sometimes by different Specialists / Garages they can be hiding many issues. We started by having to change all 6 injector connectors as they were broken. We found a wire that had rubbed through and a common issue the rear wiring harness trapped in its trunking (you can save time and labour by throwing this back on the car, rather than fitting it correctly). We replaced incorrect and missing bolts. Unsure what sealant had been used but it was rock hard. The threads came out of the cam carriers. We ended up having an Engineer make a new insert to use in one. Something we noticed and changed (we see this every week now) a driveshaft nut not peened over! Other bits and bobs, new coils on the rear bank, plugs etc.....AND the front head must have been removed before. The Inlet camshaft was in the exhaust and the exhaust camshaft in the inlet!!!! We got the car ready for Spring Alfa Day.
It's becoming very difficult to price up these older cars as the issues we are coming across as bonkers.
A lot of owners may base whether they visit a garage based on the price. We read it all the time on the forums..."How much! They're having you on".
The outcome is often what we see here.
