1962 Morgan 4/4 Series IV.
The evocative lines of the early Morgan 4/4 Series IV perfectly capture the spirit of traditional British motoring, and this beautifully presented 1962 example is no exception. Finished in rich Carmen Red with a complementary black interior, it is a wonderfully characterful Morgan which has clearly been cherished throughout its life and maintained in the style intended by the Malvern factory. Retaining its original registration number ‘40 HNP’, issued upon first registration in 1962, the car possesses all the charm and individuality expected of a proper early Morgan.
Prepared to desirable period-style competition specification, the car benefits from a Ford 1500 engine fitted with a Weber carburettor, tubular exhaust manifold and louvred bonnet, giving the car an eager and spirited character on the road while still retaining the unmistakable feel of a classic 4/4. Importantly, it retains its standard refurbished powder-coated steel wheels with correct hub caps, preserving the wonderfully understated and traditional Morgan appearance for which these cars are so admired.
The car presents beautifully throughout, having been subject to restoration some years ago by a previous lady owner who commissioned extensive works and subsequently enjoyed the car regularly, even using it as her daily transport for a period. More recently, the Morgan has remained in the hands of another lady owner for the past four years, bringing the total ownership to just four previous keepers from new. It is clear the car has enjoyed careful and enthusiastic custodianship throughout its life.
Complete with factory soft top, tonneau cover and full weather equipment, this is a Morgan equally suited to fair-weather touring or more adventurous motoring. The cabin remains delightfully traditional and the driving experience is everything one hopes for from an early 4/4. It drives exactly as a Morgan should, light, engaging and full of mechanical character, delivering the wonderfully connected motoring experience modern cars simply cannot replicate.
Adding further provenance, the car was featured prominently in Practical Classics magazine, including a front cover appearance, with copies accompanying the history file. Today the car is classed as a Historic Vehicle, benefitting from free road tax and MOT exemption, although for complete peace of mind it has a current advisory free Mot until 18th June 2027.
A beautifully presented and highly evocative Morgan, combining traditional style, proven usability and delightful road manners in equal measure.
