On Wednesday, Frank passed his LGV category C module 3b on-road driving test at this first attempt with a very good drive displayed to his examiner. His examiner actually complimented him on his control of the vehicle, especially the use of a proper gearbox! This first time pass follows Frank’s first time pass with his module 3a off-road manoeuvres test on Friday afternoon.
Frank trained for his category C licence last year on the Government BootCamp scheme, but regrettably didn’t have a good experience being placed with a number of different instructors and different vehicles to drive during his course. This year, he’s had one vehicle and one instructor, giving continuity of instruction and familiarity with the vehicle from start to finish.
Frank works for Fareshare Midlands who are a charity that take surplus food and redistribute it to people who need it. They collect the surplus food that is still in good date but by the time would have gone through the distribution process, it will be too close to its date to put on the shop shelves, so Fareshare Midlands cut out the retail part of the food distribution process and get the food directly to the people who will benefit from it the most. They collect from suppliers and distribution centres all across the Midlands, and now Frank has his category C licence, he can leave his desk and cover for holidays or if a driver can’t do their shift.
It’s been a pleasure to help Frank gain his lorry licence and it’s been eye opening to understand how much food could have been wasted if it wasn’t for an organisation like Fareshare Midlands leasing with businesses, saving them the cost of food disposal, and turning what would have been waste into meals for many.
