As we move through February and, we hope, towards better weather, many classic car owners start thinking about getting them out for a run in the Spring.

They may also be thinking about getting some work done to get their vehicles road-ready, which is where, of course, Barry is able to help you 😊

I decided to post some Memories on Monday - a look back at some past commissions that I thought you might like to see.
I certainly love looking back through them!

Many of our clients 'name' their cars - Today I am posting a portfolio of work done on Rou, a Model A Ford, which Barry restored for a lovely family from St Albans a few years' ago.

Rou was a full restoration - bodywork - paint and coachwork - engine and running gear - reupholstery - interior trim.

She looked a little sorry when she first arrived but her 'after' photos tell a much better story🤩

Wow!🤩

This is Money has exclusively spoken to the collector who placed the astronomical winning bid for the 1976 Ford Es**rt MkII RS 1800.

This Model A Ford was a full restoration project: It was one of a few Model A Fords we had in one-after-the-other at that time.

This one had last been on the road in Uruguay and the family had stored it for several years before contacting us to do a full restoration - body, interior, mechanical, electrical - everything!

Upon completion, Rou was front line and centre at their daughter's wedding.

Funny how cars seem to go in and out of fashion. Some years' later we are now getting enquiries about Model As again.

So, after a long pause due to my own cancer and losing close, loved ones during the past months, for which I apologise for the absence of posts, I am now pleased to post a handful of photos of a new commission coming into Barry Smith Cars this weekend.

This 1953 Armstrong Siddeley has come in for some 'cosmetic surgery' over the next couple of months, ready to go out on the roads in the summer sunshine ahead.

First, sincere apologies that, as far as social media posting is concerned, 2024 has been such a quiet one.

At Barry Smith Cars, Barry is the creative one, who brings wrecks back to their former glory - he is manual🙊

I am a teacher by profession, I do words, admin, reports and accounts - I am mental🙊

So it is that the ‘mental’ side has not been firing on all cylinders, so not kept up with you all. For that I sincerely apologise.

It’s fair to say that 2024 is not a year we reflect on with any joy. It’s been full of on going angst and torment and ended in the saddest of ways.

I was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and it’s been a rollercoaster of ‘niggles’ throughout the year. I’ve recently had to have more surgery but am hopeful things will be better in 2025.

Sadly, 2024 is ending in heartbreaking circumstances. We lost Barry’s brother Shayne to pancreatic cancer, which has knocked us all for six.

In between the bad, sad and ugly, Barry has continued to work on commissions and I hope to bring you more regular posts, photos and updates in 2025.

Whatever this past year has been, the best or the worst of times, I hope this New Year’s Eve finds you anticipating better things in the year ahead.

May 2025 be full of love, life and laughter, may we look to the future with hope and, when we are tested, may we have the willingness and strength to cope.

Life is the greatest journey and the hardest trek. Let us embrace the highs like beacons of light to carry us through the darker moments.

May 2025 be all you wish it to be🙏🏻
