A lovely review from Tony following his recent visit to our rolling road for a tune-up!

At Revington TR, we have the Big Three to ensure your Lucas PI (petrol injection) car is running exactly as it should!

1. An 800hp rolling road

We have an 800hp rolling road (although we’ve yet to see a TR come anywhere close to that figure… but we’d certainly love to! ). This allows us to run your car under load in the workshop while using a gas analyser to measure and display the completeness of combustion.

2.Specialist metering unit software

We use a specially designed computer program to calculate how much fuel the metering unit should deliver at different vacuum levels. This allows us to fine-tune the metering unit precisely, helping to ensure the correct amount of fuel is delivered throughout the engine’s operating range.

3. Experience that makes the difference

Having the right equipment is fantastic but understanding the information it provides is what really counts!
Fortunately, our workshop technicians have over 40 years of experience between them. This knowledge allows us to interpret the results and make the adjustments needed to achieve the best possible balance of performance, smooth running, and fuel economy for each individual car

With modern electrical devices becoming an essential part of everyday life, having convenient power in the cockpit is increasingly important.

Recently in the workshop we have fitted this dual 12V power socket with a USB charging port, positioned beneath the dashboard for easy access. The built-in voltage display also provides a handy indication of the vehicle’s electrical system voltage.

This is something we see all too often in the workshop. The standard diff mounts on the TR4A-6 are very prone to cracking, and it’s often something that can easily be overlooked until it’s too late.

This is a great example of a crack that had progressed to the point where it had become a serious and a potentially dangerous issue. On this car, there were also signs that the crack had previously been ‘repaired’. However, without the appropriate strengthening, this only prolonged the inevitable failure.

Thankfully, we caught this one before it could cause any further damage. In this instance, we had to carry out a repair to the chassis before we could install the strengthening kit.

Diff strengthening is an important piece of preventative maintenance, whether you’re building a chassis up from scratch or simply looking to maintain your current chassis.

We offer two versions of our diff strengthening kit:
Body-on chassis kit – RTR7012-2K
Body-off chassis kit – RTR7012-1K

We also offer a front suspension strengthening kit for TR4A–TR6 – RTR7017K.

A few lovely words from Chris.

Chris originally came to us for a rolling road tune and a rear damper conversion.

While tuning the car we found the fuel pump not outputting the correct pressure, even though it was only 2 years old! We tried to increase the pressure on the prv but could not get it any higher than 80 psi, we ideally like to see 105 psi for optimum performance.
After discussing the findings with Chris, we decided the best course of action was to replace both the PRV and the fuel pump to ensure maximum reliability and performance.

We fitted our Fuel Pump & PRV Kit (Part Nos. RTR4050XK & RTR4456K). These kits have proven their reliability time and time again—most notably in Neil’s own Targa TR5, which has covered hundreds of thousands of miles over the past 20 years in countries around the world, across a huge range of altitudes and temperatures, without a single issue.

A common issue we see in the workshop is worn or missing throttle pedal bushes, along with bent throttle stops.

These problems can leave your throttle feeling loose and unresponsive, impacting overall driving performance.

To resolve these issues we:
- Straighten and reinforce the throttle stop with a welded bracket to prevent future bending
- Install high-quality SuperPro pedal bushes (SPF0982) for a tighter, more precise feel

Our seats are still a popular upgrade for TRs. They provide comfort and security, whilst being as wide as possible given the cabin size of a TR. Standard pricing is for a black seat with white or black piping. Alternative seat and piping colours are available at an additional cost. (Part number RTR6125)

These seats pair perfectly with a roll over bar, harness bar, and harnesses (part numbers RTR9053, RTR9148HB, and RTR9249). The harness bar can also be used individually with a set of harnesses, if preferred.

are now in a position where we are actively looking for an experienced self employed Historic & Classic Vehicle Engineer / Mechanic, based at our Wrington workshop.

Approximately two days per week needed, with a potential to increase if required.

Neil & Sue are taking on the Balkans Rally!! 🚙

Next week, Neil & Sue are setting off for a month long rally in the Works TR4 Rally car registered 6VC 👌🏽

They will be taking part in Malcolm McKays Balkans Rally, run under the banner of Classic Rally Press Ltd, here’s the map 🗺️ extract that gives some idea of some of the places they will be visiting

This is a return visit for 6VC to this area as the car, which was part of the works Competition Department from early 1962, was part of the works team that campaigned the 1963 Liege-Sofia-Liege.

The event was a grueling affair with most of the field falling by the wayside.

Only a handful of cars reached the finish none of which were from the works team.

6VC was a high-speed support car, not competing as such but very much present.

One of the most commonly fitted upgrades in our workshop is the Axial fuel pump kit (part number RTR4050XK), along with our fuel pressure regulator kit (part number RTR4456K). This week alone, we have installed three of these kits.

We are frequently removing both standard and aftermarket systems that have proven to be substandard. In contrast, our pump kits have demonstrated outstanding reliability since we first devisedthe system back in 1987.

When installing the fuel pump kit, we always recommend pairing it with our auxiliary fuse box kit (part number RTR8270K). In addition, we always wire in a relay for the fuel pump. This is essential, as modern pump systems require around 13 amps, compared to just 3 amps for the original setup. This is a commonly overlooked detail when installing aftermarket pump kits.
