Racing is a life of highs and lows. Partying when all is good comes naturally to most, but when those lows arrive, it can be hard to deal with. It’s important, as a racing driver, that you never admit that you may have been responsible for your poor performance. We’ve all heard those excuses; plausible and ridiculous. We’re not all blessed with the benefit of a quick-thinking response gene so for

all those drivers who need a little help with their excuses, there’s this book. It’s a handy size to put in the door pocket, behind your seat or in the pocket of your race suit. Familiarise yourself with it now because when you step from your car during one of those lows, you need to be prepared. This book doesn’t cover everything though. You’re still going to need the skill of embellishment. Add detail, but not too much, because you’ll get caught out. Practice at home when nobody’s around. It might be the most useful pre-race preparation you do! I’d like to thank the many drivers who have contributed to this list. Without your endless pursuit of the impression of perfection, none of this rubbish would ever have been heard.
