And Yes, to answer a question I get often, I do sharpen hairdressing scissors too.
In lots of ways they are very similar to a groomer’s own scissors, but usually smaller (4-5”) and almost always convex. They are sharpened a little differently though, technically sharper if used for slide cutting and not dissimilar to a high quality finishing scissor.
They do tend to stay sharper for longer, as human hair is a lot softer than fur, so less harsh on the cutting edges, but this also means they need to be ‘sharper’ and a more acute, finer edge angle to avoid pushing the hair ✂️

Who would have thought such a tiny component would make such a difference?
This internal pivot ‘click washer’ had broken and was causing a tiny, but uncomfortable catch in the action and they no longer felt smooth.
Quite unusual for them to break in this way but never say never, luckily it’s an easy fix. Replace with the correct size and hey presto all is well again.
Some might not have even felt the catch, some wouldn’t have investigated or found the issue, some might not have the correct parts to fix…..
But that’s why you should use a scissor specialist, especially for your premium quality scissors 😇✂️

Another busy sharpening week, which is a little surprising as historically it tends to be a little quieter towards the end of October, the calm before the Pre Christmas Madness storm.

In fairness, today I was going to have a sneaky day off to go and check and double secure the mooring lines on my boat given the Weekend Storm forecast, but it’s had to wait as I’ve too much work to ignore. With two main lines and 2 back up strops I’m hoping that will be enough ⛓️🤷‍♂️🫣

Anyway these Left Handed scissors that came in this week were first on the job list today, they are now ready to go back to their owners, sharp, shiny, lubricated and feeling like new again.

Other notables today were a lovely P&W Blacksmith, Spartan and Geib Blue Breeze collection, that now look and perform beautifully again after a little TLC and full machine polish 😇
The new K by Kojirō Petal collection is due to be launched on Monday, so a few final touches and hand finishing on the first batch of those has also taken some time this week.

Ready for a little rest whilst stressing watching the weather this weekend and hoping not to get a call regarding the boat going sailing on it’s own ⛵️ 🤔😳✂️
