Delivered new in 1927 and the seventh 4 ½ Litre ever built, ‘Mabel’ is a wonderfully original Vintage Bentley with an enviable concours history and exceptional provenance throughout her life.

Fitted new with a Vanden Plas Sports four-seater, this was replaced in the 1960s by the coachbuilder Meynell Phillips, noted by John Green as being one of the best in his time. Rebuilt by a leading marque specialist, she became a Kensington Palace concours d’Elegance champion in 1966. Previous wins also included Blenheim in consecutive years, 1966 and 1967 and Goodwood with a 2nd place podium finish in 1967.

Just over one month on from our biggest Generations Track Day yet, and we’re still thinking about it. 🏁

The Generations Track Day has always been about more than the cars themselves. It’s about giving the next generation the confidence, encouragement, and opportunity to experience these machines properly.

Thank you again to everyone who made our largest event yet such a memorable one.

1924. Le Mans. A privately entered Bentley 3 Litre against the full weight of the French establishment

French manufacturers dominated early running. Through the night, mechanical drama, a pit stop that nearly cost everything and one wheel that refused to come off, the Bentley pushed on.

125 laps. 1,290 miles. 53.8mph average. One lap to spare.

The first British car to win Le Mans. A victory that changed the course of Bentley history forever. Four more Le Mans wins in-period would follow, built on the success.

This is the story of XT 1606. The car that started it all.

The regulations in 1924 stated, French cars to be blue and British cars had to be green. In 100 years, not a single article has been written correcting the colour of XT 1606 during the race. That’s the level of detail we enjoy.

When the ACO, the owners of the Le Mans 24hr, commissioned Vintage Bentley to restore the first British car to ever win the race, the brief was straightforward. Return it to the exact form in which it started the race. Not inspired by it. Exactly it.

3,700+ hours of restoration. Hundreds more hours of research. Every detail verified against original photographs, and previously unseen photos from the Duff, Clement and Pennal family personal albums. Wooden wedges to quickly adjust the headlamps. The unique prototype André Hartford dampers missing since the race, recreated.

The car was deliberately not restored to perfection, because perfection wasn’t the brief. Authenticity was.

She now sits proudly at the all new M24 Museum at Le Mans. As she raced. Ready to race.

Sold to her next custodian.

Boasting matching numbers and complete ownership history, this 4½ Litre Bentley was shortened in 1946 by the legendary Syd Laurence to a 9’ 9½” wheelbase and upgraded throughout with all the right Bentley Boy enhancements, including a steel crank and rods.

Prepared for competition but never raced, she remained with her last owner for over 20 years and represents a true thoroughbred within the Vintage Bentley world.
