At fourteen, Richard Hutchins left school struggling to read and write. Today, the founder of LRC has written several books. His first told the story of how it all began.
In Raw Hide: The Unfiltered Life of Richard Hutchins, Richard shares the life behind the business—from a childhood where he often felt misunderstood to the model car ventures, travels, near misses and eventually building LRC with Carolynne.
He writes openly about living with dyslexia and ADHD, struggling with his mental health, losing almost everything and finding the determination to start again. He also acknowledges his mistakes and the pressure that building businesses placed on his family.
Throughout the book are the people who helped him through: Carolynne, their daughters, friends who listened and those who believed in him when he struggled to believe in himself.
Richard shared his story so others could recognise something of their own lives in it and know they are not alone. He hopes it shows that struggling at school, thinking differently or experiencing failure does not have to decide your future.
Determination matters. So does having people beside you, accepting support and giving yourself another chance.
