⏰ Your cambelt won’t always warn you before it fails. Would you know if yours was overdue?
It’s one of those car parts most drivers never think about — until something goes wrong.
Your cambelt plays a vital role in keeping your engine running smoothly. But unlike worn brake pads or tyres, a deteriorating cambelt may show no obvious warning signs.
🔧 Here’s what every motorist should know:
🔴 Age matters, not just mileage. Cambelts deteriorate over time, even if your car isn’t driven regularly.
🔴 Failure can be expensive. On many engines, a snapped cambelt can cause serious internal damage, potentially leading to repairs costing thousands.
🔴 Replacement intervals vary. Your vehicle manufacturer specifies when the cambelt should be replaced, usually based on age or mileage, whichever comes first.
🔴 What about the water pump? On some vehicles, the water pump is driven by the cambelt. Replacing both together can save labour costs and help avoid further work later.
⚠️ The important bit: Don’t wait for a strange noise or a dashboard warning. A cambelt can fail without giving you either.
💬 Quick question: Do you know when your cambelt was last replaced? Or would you have to check?
At Hardings Garage, we can check your vehicle’s recommended replacement interval and advise whether it’s time for a change.
