Driver Training Centre for HGV, LGV, CPC, ADR & FLT This was the start of the HGV training centre in Tollcross, Glasgow.

Ritchies Training Centre was established in 1983 by Walter Ritchie, Walter decided the only way to engage high quality drivers was to train them himself. With over 25 years experience in the road haulage industry and operating 35 vehicles performing local and long distance work, he was well aware of the needs of the industry. Since then, PCV, Forklift and construction plant have been added to our training portfolio, as well as classroom-based courses such as ADR, CPC and DGSA. We provide training in all areas for private individuals, companies, most of the large district councils in Scotland, The MOD and most of the utility companies throughout the country, as well as being a CTP Resettlement Training Centre. As well as our own driving maneuvering area we also have our own “construction site”, used specifically for training on a variety of plant equipment including our 3 Tower Cranes. Over the years the business has expanded rapidly and has included the building of our purpose built training centre opened in December 2001 by The Right Hon Michael Martin MP Speaker of the House of Commons. Located 5 minutes from Glasgow city centre, as well as our recent move to brand new first class accommodation at Firhill Court. DVLA driving licence medical conditions update - not good news
Drivers facing medical assessments for bus and lorry licences are waiting longer for decisions. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's latest average is 55.8 days, approaching two months. That is down from nearly 65 days in August, but above most months in 2025. Delays in licence renewals can affect drivers' ability to stay behind the wheel. Measures to reduce waits include additional staff, a new casework system and text message trials. A digital medical services portal supports applications covering approximately 1,600 medical conditions.

Wow

An unauthorised abnormal load was stopped travelling through Wiltshire today on the M4.

Upon speaking with the drivers of all three vehicles, the first HGV driver had no tachograph card, was not displaying an operator's licence and was disqualified from driving. The driver of the second HGV had no tax in place and was not displaying an operator's licence. On top of this the es**rt vehicle was being driven by a 16-year-old with no licence.

All three vehicles have been seized, drivers reported for prosecution and unfortunately the caravan will not be making its delivery today.

As a result of this the transport company will also be reported to the traffic commissioner for further investigation.

PC Miller from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Unlawful movements through Wiltshire will not be tolerated.

"We are actively policing the road and loads that are moved without authority, conducted in an unsafe manner or where vehicles have been either poorly maintained or are not compliant with the legislation will be stopped and where appropriate seized.

"This is another example of risks being taken putting law abiding road users and transport companies at risk due to failure to follow the rules of the road."
