Is there a more iconic 80s car than the Ferrari ?

For many it will be "the one from Miami Vice" and though I think its predecessor the 512 is the better looker it will never be the cultural phenomenon that this is.

With more common, modern Ferraris fetching increasingly high sums the Testarossa is also standing out as something of a bargain by comparison. Will they go up again? What do you think, and would you have one?

On the day that Jaguar launch their first car of the hugely controversial "new era" strategy, lets take a look back at what could have been.

The CX75 was an epic piece of design and today looks stunning. It never got further than a concept but even so it looks good for production to my eyes.

A few of them exist around the world in various states, but at JaguarLandRover Classic Centre they have the only fully trimmed one, a glimpse of what could have been.

They claim that the appetite wasn't there for the car in 2013 and this is why it wasn't built. Sure the mad F1 inspired engine and sci fi turbine hybrid would have never made production, but I think this would have shifted.

Controversial upon launch, I think the Jaguar XJ40 has aged magnificently in its 40 years and stands out as a more aggressive, but still classic take on the Jaguar format.

Thanks to Daniel Moffatt for bringing out his Moroccan Red 3.2S for me to have a look at.

Shall we get it for a review?

It's funny, whenever a Ferrari, Maserati or Alfa breaks it's always "typical Italian cars, shoddy build quality".

When my Toyota breaks, for the same reason people are never quite as quick to tell me how useless the Japanese are at building cars...

Luckily the Celica GT-Four looks stunning even on a flatbed. Alternator failure, for the second time in three years. I felt bad as this happened while SPORTZNTOURING was borrowing it and he only had it because the F12 had also stranded him with a shredded alternator belt.

Just as well we love these things isn't it!

I can't think of a better view to be greeted with than a Piper in their regalia, at the edge of John O'Groats with the sea behind them.

Volkswagen UK Press Office did a very good job making the Scottish trip hit all the right notes.

Up in Scotland with VW celebrating 50 years of the GTI brand. Initially a skunkworks project expected to sell 5000 cars, they've sold close to 2,500,000.

Most people associate it with the Golf, but other cars have received the treatment too.
Believe it or not I have never driven a Polo GTI. It's quite a compelling package, although in this weather desperately needs an L*D and (shock horror) much better steering.
