So the new and improved sprint car went for testing today at Blyton. Rob Wakelin came to help
me set the car up suspension wise as we are on a new coilover set up since last year. Massive thanks to Rob

With new engine, pedal box, dccd map etc this is basically a new car. I was rather nervous if I’m honest as I have not driven the car in a year! So sensible low power mode which is just 1.5 bar on 99 fuel. Still rather nippy at 512bhp.

There were no issues whatsoever Rob made various changes subject to my feedback after each run of 2/3 laps. Car feels way better than the previous spec I must say.

Final run we popped some 50/50 109/99 fuel
In and turned it up to 610bhp at 1.7 bar. Wow rather quick in this guise. So much so I out braked myself in to one corner. All
fine though and car passed with flying colours.

Just need more time to get to grips with the changes but we will get back in to competitive action in 2 weeks at Croft in the Javelin Sprint Series.

Time for a little update as things have been quiet on the Subaru front.

Last year I took the decision to retire drag shed. We had been there done that. Had 8 second runs and in reality it would have been hard and £££s to go faster.

So I decided to combine the best of the drag car and sprint car in one. There was an engine at the ready which was due to be the new drag engine plus many other parts I could move across but it never that simple is it!

Many months later with a huge amount of work from good friends including Tim Farmer, Richard O’Donavan and of course Jase Cooper we have finally got the car ready to test.

Tim Farmer has put in a serious amount of time with a little bit of help from myself 😃

A complete new bespoke loom made and ECU fitted thanks to Richard at Zen Performance.

Jase and Ed of Area 52 Autosport for all the engine build and a great deal of bespoke work to get everything to come together. Jase has spent days mapping with the final result in the picture.

Thanks to all of you.

Outside of the world of motorsport I actually work for a living 😊
I have recently started working with an Insurance Broker with the brand Doddle Cover. I have set up a couple of insurance schemes to cover performance and modified vehicles. These are unique in the market and each risk is individually underwritten.

So if you are due for renewal soon give us a try, this is not your usual online quote like the competition, you actually speak to a person who will make sure the correct cover is in place.

We can also cover car collections, camper vans etc.

Please feel free to share my page.

👋 We're Doddle Cover and we're here for the modified car community!

Round 3 of the Javelin Sprintdays series at Croft today. 3rd place overall. Couldn’t get to grips with circuit today or the car if I’m honest but I’ll take the result. Paul Apthorpe had a cracking last run to jump in to 8th place. Thanks to Area 52 Motorsport with Jase Cooper Cheryl Carling Cooper and Ed Heathfield all there to support today.
Congratulations to Richard Wright and Chris Edwards in 1st and 2nd.
Next round at Cadwell Park in a few weeks.

Round 2 of the Javelin Sprintdays series and 4th overall for myself and 8th for Paul Apthorpe. Congratulations to the podium placed chaps Richard Wright Adrian Smith and Chris Edwards. I couldn’t find the time in the afternoon to challenge.
Overall though I was pleased being 1.5 seconds quicker than last year and Paul was 4 seconds quicker!

Thanks to sponsors and friends there on the day from Area52 Autosport Jase Cooper Cheryl Carling Cooper and Ed Heathfield.

Also to Tim Farmer Ben Farmer and Gez Purcell.

Myself and Paul had a good day at Round 1 of the Javelin Sprint Series at Blyton Park.

2nd and 6th overall was a great result. Car was fantastic and there were faster times for both of us out there but a few mistakes and last seasons tyres finally said no. But PBs for both of us can’t be sniffed at.

Massive thanks to friends and sponsors in particular Area 52 Autosport. We continue to develop
the car and although there’s not much that’s changed since last season little changes have helped. Also got to mention Rob Wakelin for help with set up a couple of weeks back testing and Tim Farmer for all his help with the car over many years also.

Cracking day today on a half track day and then PM sprint. Spent the morning optimising suspension settings with Rob Wakelin sending me out run after run without telling me what he’d changed. We found a sweet spot and end result was decent times for myself and Paul.
Huge thanks to Rob and Dawn for taking the time out to help.

Latest set up has gained us a little more power from last year although didn’t use it all today. Car ran perfectly thanks to Area 52 Autosport.

First event proper in a couple
of weeks back at Blyton Park.

Car had its final preparation for the new season this week at Area 52 Autosport.
Over last season we fitted a new Pulsar turbo 30/770 as the old GT30 was getting tired after 10 years of service. We were not really looking for more power as such as I wanted to retain the response of the old set up. However it made a little more; 577 compared to the previous 565bhp.
Since then we decided to change the side exit exhaust as it hung very low and was a real pain getting the car on and off the trailer so the guys at Area 52 fabricated a bespoke system to exit at the rear which looks much better and solves the loading/unloading issues.
Final stage this week was to tinker with cam timing as power curve previously was very flat from 5.5k rpm. After some careful experimentation noting degrees of change on each iteration we found a little more power and a more progressive power curve and peak power rise to 601bhp.

Thanks very much to Area 52 Autosport for all their time and effort getting everything done for the new season ahead.
