✔️ cursul este structurat pentru mai multe niveluri de învăţământ (grădiniță, primar, secundar și parțial colegiu) şi se adresează copiilor cu vârste între 3 şi 18 ani;
✔️cursul se desfăşoară în cadrul spaţiilor puse la dispoziţie în mod gratuit de către unităţi de învăţământ publice britanice, cu acordul conducerii acestora;
✔️pentru formarea grupelor de studiu, numărul minim este de 7 preșcolari (pentru grupa de vârstă 3-6 ani) și 15 elevi (pentru grupa de vârstă 7-18 ani);
✔️formatul cursului este de două ore pe săptămână;
✔️cursul este opţional (organizat în sistem de club şcolar), iar programa acestuia este aprobată prin ordin al ministrului educației din România.

În ceea ce privește personalul didactic:
✔️cursul este predat de personalul selectat de Institutul Limbii Române în urma unui concurs, dintre aplicanți cetăţeni români cu rezidenţa în UK;
✔️concursul este organizat de Comisia de selecţie, numită prin ordin al ministrului român al educaţiei;
✔️personalul care predă cursul este numit prin ordin al ministrului educaţiei naţionale și încheie un contract de colaborare cu Institutul Limbii Române, fiind remunerat în regim de plata cu ora, conform dispoziţiilor legale în vigoare;
✔️constituirea grupelor de studiu revine personalului care predă, în acord cu repartizarea;
profesorul, alături de conducerea școlii, decide în ce zile se organizează cursul, în concordanţă cu structura anului şcolar din UK.

The Romanian Language, Culture and Civilization Course (LCCR) is a project funded by the Romanian authorities, through the Romanian Language Institute, for Romanian students in the diaspora. In the current school year, the LCCR course is being run in several public schools in the UK that have agreed to host it and for which teachers have been identified.

The process of identifying other UK schools willing to host this free course in the 2026–2027 school year has now begun. In this context, we are launching a new call for action to the Romanian community in the UK.

If you are interested in having this optional Romanian language course in the school your children attend, we encourage you to express your interest directly to the school management. To do so, you can use the template letter available at the following link: https://londra.mae.ro/local-news/2788

Alternatively, you can send us the school's contact details at [email protected], and the Romanian Embassy will contact the respective school directly.

The deadline for having the list of schools willing to host this project is 14 May 2026.

Below there are some relevant information about the LCCR courses:
✔️the course is structured on several levels of education (nursery, primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges) and it addresses children within the age of 3 to 18 years old;
✔️the course is held within the premises provided by the UK educational institutions, free of charge, with the approval of their management.
✔️or forming the groups, the minimum is 7 children for the age category 3-6 years old and 15 pupils for the age category 7-18 years old;
✔️the course format is two hours per week;
✔️the course is optional (organized in a school club system), and its curriculum is approved by order of the Minister of Education of Romania.

As for the personnel teaching this course:
✔️the course is taught by personnel selected after a contest, Romanian citizens residing in the UK;
the selection contest is organised by the Selection Commission appointed by order of the Romanian Minister of Education;
✔️the personnel teaching the course is appointed by order of the Romanian Minister of Education and signs a collaboration contract with the Romanian Language Institute, being reimbursed by the Romanian Language Institute, hourly paid, in accordance with the legal implementations in force;
✔️forming the groups is an attribution of the teaching personnel, in agreement with the assignment;
✔️the teacher, with the consent of the school management, decides in which of the days and times the course will be organised, in conformity with the UK school year.

Letter for schools:

To [Name of the School]

Subject: Request to introduce the optional Romanian Language, Culture and Civilization Course (LCCR) – school year 2026/2027

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing as the parent/legal guardian of ………….. [Student Name]……….., who is currently in Year ……. at your school.

I would like to bring to your attention the Romanian Language, Culture and Civilisation Course (LCCR), a programme funded by the Romanian authorities through the Romanian Language Institute. This course can be offered as an optional subject for students of Romanian origin in schools that are willing to host it at no cost.

The LCCR programme supports bilingualism, encourages intercultural understanding and helps students maintain their linguistic and cultural heritage. At the same time, it offers a valuable opportunity to enrich the wider school community through cultural exchange and diversity.
Importantly, the LCCR courses are free of charge for both the host schools and the students, while the costs related to the teaching staff - native UK-based Romanian speakers with specific training selected by the Romanian Language Institute - are fully covered by the Romanian Ministry of Education.

The format of the course is of two hours per week and its curriculum is approved by order of the Romanian Minister of Education. Scheduling arrangements would be agreed between the school and the assigned teacher to ensure suitability for all participants.

According to the project guidelines, the LCCR course may be considered in any school upon the collection of a minimum of 7 enrolments (for the 3-6 years old range) and a minimum of 15 enrolments (for the 7-18 years old range), including those joining from nearby schools (if the hosting school agrees to also accept other students). The program is currently available in several UK schools with significant numbers of Romanian students.

In this context, I hereby express my strong interest for my child to participate in the above-mentioned project if the school agrees to host it during the 2026/2027 academic year.

I would be very grateful if the school could consider contacting the Embassy of Romania in London (at [email protected]) by 14 May 2026 to explore the possibility of hosting the LCCR course, so that our school could be included on the official list of potential host schools for which the teacher recruitment and selection process will be organised.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours faithfully,

70% say learning to drive is unaffordable. But is that the full story?

A new survey says 70% of adults without a licence believe learning to drive is currently unaffordable.

Among 18 to 29 year olds, that figure rises to 76%.

It also found:
🚗 38% said lesson prices were the biggest deterrent
🚗 32% said buying a car was the main barrier
🚗 15% said insurance costs put them off
🚗 45% said they would consider learning if it became significantly cheaper

Those figures matter.
The cost of living is real.
Wages are stretched.
Many people are genuinely struggling.

But there is another side to this conversation.
People will often spend £1,000 on tattoos, £250 on trainers, hundreds on phones, nights out, subscriptions, holidays, takeaways and things that lose value the moment they are bought.

Yet when it comes to learning a life skill that can open job opportunities, independence, family support, commuting freedom and confidence, suddenly it is seen as “too expensive.”

Learning to drive is not buying a product.
It is investing in yourself.

You are paying for:

🚗 A qualified instructor’s time and expertise
🚗 Fuel costs
🚗 Insurance
🚗 Vehicle maintenance
🚗 Tyres, servicing and repairs
🚗 Tax and running costs
🚗 Years of experience keeping people safe
🚗 Responsibility for teaching you properly
🚗 Every client has a log book each book costs me £5
It’s up to date with grades, subjects we have covered etc written by myself and professionally printed
🚗Materials, visuals ( they are not cheap)

Many assume they are paying for someone to sit beside them for an hour.

They are paying for knowledge, judgement, safety and guidance that may protect them for the rest of their life.

Could lessons be cheaper?
Everyone would welcome that.

But many people do not have a cost problem.

They have a priority problem.

The same money often exists.
It is simply spent elsewhere first.

Driving is not compulsory.

But if you want the freedom, convenience and opportunities it can bring, it should be viewed as an investment, not just another bill.

What do you think?🤔

Is learning to drive genuinely unaffordable now, or have priorities changed?

We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪
