It may be rather wet out there today but it didn't stop our three trainees in Dumfries sailing through their tests. Both Alex and William passed their class C tests today and Gavin passed his CE test.
Earlier in the week at Perth, we had David, Kake and Paul pass their CE tests as well. David was trained on our No-one Left Behind programme supported by Skills and Employment Support

Due to continued expansion and the success of our previous apprentice driver scheme, we are delighted to announce that HCT are holding an open day on Saturday 27th June 2026 starting at 9am and finishing around noon at our Ecclefechan depot.

The HGV Driver will be working within Hydro International's UK Wastewater Services (UKWWS) team. We support water utility companies working on sewage sites across the United Kingdom.
Requirements:
• Must hold current valid UK driving licence and ideally have no more than 6 penalty points on your licence.
• Able to carry out work some distance from base which will require overnight stays.
• Able to work outside on sites which are connected with wastewater (Sewage).
• Capable of working at heights from scaffold platforms, ladders, or mechanical equipment.
• Undertake training and work as part of a confined space team.
• Able to carry out work tasks that involve physical strength, stamina, standing, kneeling, or crouching.
• Must take pride in his vehicle and keep it clean, tidy, and serviceable.
Competence and Qualifications:
• C/HGV 2 licence
• LOLER 1998 appreciation and awareness
• Valid driver’s CPC and Digi card
• Crane Operators licence
• Confined spaces to City and Guilds is desirable
• Slinger/crane supervisor
• Mechanical Engineering background is desirable.

Skills & Attributes:


• Qualified crane operator with experience
• Experience of British Standard Code of Practice for the safe use of cranes BS7121
• Experience of loading flatbed wagons and securing loads
• Basic knowledge of industrial mechanical fitting
• Basic Knowledge of Health & Safety issues in connection with the construction industry.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work in a systematic and organised manner to ensure work is completed within set timescales.
• Be friendly, professional, reliable with good people skills who enjoys supporting and working as part of a team.
• Able to communicate effectively to the customers, company management & staff.
• To work as part of a team and to co-operate with other staff / trades.
• Conduct the work activities in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the company

Key Duties:

• Weekly driving/operating crane and working on sewage treatment sites - therefore the role will entail being away from home Monday to Friday on a regular basis.
• You will be required to take the lead role in all lifting operations and securing loads and be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the lorry and crane.
• Working week will involve lifting, removing, and installing machinery plus working as part of the Mechanical/electrical engineering team that is likely to involve some manual fitting work.
• Working outside in all weathers. PPE clothing will be provided.
• Overnight stays in the cab of the lorry.
• If required, work on a Saturday morning to undertake a thorough weekly clean and routine maintenance of the lorry and load the lorry for the forthcoming week.

Office Closure Notice

We will be closed for two hours on Thursday from 1030am as we take time to pay our respects to Pauline, the wife of our instructor Sandy, who sadly passed away on Monday, 18th May. Our answerphone will be on, and we will return all missed calls when we are back in the office.

We will also be closed from 1030am on Friday to attend the funeral of our instructor and friend, Jim Ross, who passed away on Monday, 25th May after bravely battling cancer. Jim was a well respected and much loved member of our small team, and he will be deeply missed. Any calls received during this time will be returned when we reopen on Monday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sandy and Jim’s families during this very sad time.
