AMG A35 in for rough running and fuel smell. Only DTC was for injector limit. Fuel trim at -14% and the oxygen sensors were showing a rich mixture, coolant temperature fine etc. All tallying so far. ๐ต๏ธ
TSBs for cylinder head issues was concerning ๐ฌ so we put forward for pulse sensor diagnostics. Something I needed some more experience in๐ช
Hooked up one in the intake and my own homemade one in the tailpipe (shout out to my bro Matt for the 3d print ๐). Amps clamp showing the relative compression and a cylinder one sync on the ignition with the paddle probe. Injectors disconnected as to not affect results.
We found a repeatable issue on cylinder one power stroke. Every time the cylinder was on power, a wrinkle came up from the tailpipe sensor ๐จ
This was the evidence we needed to go in with the bore scope. Noted excessive soot on spark plugs cylinder one, these are only 3weeks old. In the cylinder we could see cylinder one exhaust valve showing sooty marks from not sealing. Articulated borescopes are great ๐
So unfortunately it's new cylinder head time. The fact Mercedes has revised the design twice since the car was made is a little telling ๐ซฃ
