Armtrac Ltd

Armtrac Ltd Armtrac Ltd, based in Cambridgeshire UK, manufactures quality, safe and value for money mechanical equipment to counter the threat from Explosive Ordnance.

As an ISO 9001 company, Armtrac provides quality mechanical solutions using remote controlled technology and on some of the larger machines, an operator’s cabin to provide a “bird’s eye” view of clearance operations. All equipments use hydraulic quick hitch couplings to attach a variety of toolkits to the front or rear of the machine. This allows all Armtrac equipment to not only destroy EO in sit

u but also to sort, sift and mitigate the effects of EO & operate in secondary construction and engineering roles beyond their primary functions. Therefore Armtrac products are particularly versatile and have a second life both in and out of high threat areas. The company prides itself on producing innovative solutions to a variety of different threats and can design and manufacture for bespoke requirements. The Armtrac 20T Robot is the newest of its products. It is a remote controlled Small (Heavy) Unmanned Ground Vehicle designed to undertake high risk investigation and De-mining/C-IED clearance operations. This robust and flexible robot is fitted with a diesel engine that can operate for several hours without refuelling and can therefore support lengthy De-mining/C-IED operations. The Robot can be fitted with surface and sub-surface EO disposal equipment, real time X-Ray and other detection systems (including Ground Probing Radar) and an advanced manipulator for investigating and analysing the threat. Remote operations are supported by real time cameras and monitors. There are a number of sub-surface impact and engineering tools available with the Armtrac 20T including a Flail, Manipulator Arm, Minecomb and front loading Bucket/Fork Lift.

Quality Assurance is just as important as clearance itself.

Even after mechanical ground preparation, buried ordinance can remain hidden beneath the surface. That's where the Armtrac Minecomb Toolkit plays a critical role.

Designed to extract potentially missed mines and UXO from depths of up to 50cm, the Minecomb provides an additional layer of confidence during post clearance verification and quality assurance operations. When paired with a tiller or flail system, it helps ensure contaminated land is thoroughly assessed before being returned to communities, agriculture, infrastructure projects or redevelopment.

In mine action, every recovered item matters. Effective QA doesn't just validate clearance, it helps protect lives long after operations are complete.

TILLER vs FLAIL — Which system delivers the advantage in hazardous terrain?

In humanitarian demining, choosing the right clearance tool can dramatically impact safety, speed and operational success.

TILLER SYSTEMS
✔ Deep soil pe*******on
✔ Effective in compact or rocky ground
✔ Excellent for anti tank mine clearance
✔ Consistent terrain processing depth

FLAIL SYSTEMS
✔ Superior vegetation reduction
✔ Fast surface preparation
✔ Ideal for softer terrain conditions
✔ Effective route and lane clearance

Modern mechanical demining operations often require both capabilities depending on soil conditions, contamination type, vegetation density and mission objectives.

The most successful clearance operations don’t rely on one solution they rely on selecting the right tool for the threat environment.

Armtrac systems are engineered to adapt to evolving operational challenges with interchangeable clearance toolkits and remote controlled safety systems designed for high risk environments.

Which system do you believe offers the greatest operational advantage in today’s demining landscape?

ArUnmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) are transforming how high risk environments are approached putting safety and efficiency at the forefront of demining operations.

With systems like the Armtrac range, operators can maintain a safe distance up to 1 km while retaining full control over critical clearance tasks . This significantly reduces exposure to danger while ensuring consistent, high performance output in challenging terrains.

From clearing dense vegetation to neutralising buried threats, UGVs not only protect lives but also accelerate mission timelines delivering measurable impact where it matters most.

The result? Safer operations, faster land release and greater operational confidence across humanitarian and defence sectors.

Armtrac’s telescopic boom transforms how operators approach complex and high risk environments. Designed to extend reach into riverbanks, steep inclines and confined or hazardous zones, this capability allows clearance operations to continue without repositioning the machin saving time, reducing exposure and increasing productivity.

Mounted on platforms like the Armtrac 400, the telescopic boom supports a range of interchangeable tools from flails and tillers to grapples and excavators making it a multi functional solution for UXO and landmine clearance, as well as construction and recovery operations.

✔ Reach inaccessible or dangerous areas safely
✔ Maintain machine stability during operations
✔ Increase clearance efficiency across varied terrain
✔ Enable multi role deployment beyond demining

This is engineering designed not just for performance but for real world operational challenges.

The telescopic boom can extend to safely clear mines and UXO in difficult locations while the machine remains stationary delivering both precision and protection in the field

Landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) remain a major global challenge, affecting communities, infrastructure development and humanitarian operations.

According to recent humanitarian mine action reports, millions of mines remain buried worldwide, preventing safe land use for agriculture, housing and transport.

This is where mechanised demining solutions play a crucial role.

Armtrac machines are designed to increase clearance efficiency while protecting operators, combining powerful mechanical systems with remote operation capabilities.

For example, the Armtrac 400 can clear up to 2,400 m² per hour depending on terrain, while maintaining a safe operational distance for personnel through remote control functionality.

With modular toolkits, remote operation and robust engineering, Armtrac machines help organisations worldwide:

✔ Increase land clearance efficiency
✔ Reduce risk to human operators
✔ Restore land for agriculture, infrastructure and communities

As global demand for safe land access continues to grow, advanced mechanical demining technologies will remain critical in accelerating humanitarian and infrastructure recovery efforts.

Every clearance mission carries risk, the question is no longer whether to use unmanned systems, it’s how effectively they’re integrated into operations.

Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) dramatically reduce operator exposure while maintaining full operational control. With remote ranges of up to 1 km.

Systems like the Armtrac 20T allow teams to conduct vegetation cutting, flailing, excavation and technical survey from a protected distance without compromising precision or productivity.

For larger scale clearance, machines such as the Armtrac 400 operate fully remotely up to 800 metres.

Why this matters:

-Reduced human exposure to blast threats
- Increased operational uptime
- Improved visibility through integrated camera and control systems
- Greater flexibility across terrain and threat levels

In high threat environments, separation equals survivability and survivability drives mission success.

Remote capability is not just an innovation, it’s an operational advantage.
