The fastest charger you can install at home is 7.0 kW to 7.4 kW because it's the limit of standard single-phase electrical supplies, which are standard in almost all residential homes in the UK and globally.

What does that mean in real-time?

With a typical 60 kWh EV battery:

✅ 7.0 kW charger: Around 8.5 hours for a full charge
✅ 7.4 kW charger: Around 8 hours for a full charge

The difference is small, but both options make overnight charging easy for most drivers. The best charger for you depends on your vehicle, home electrical supply and daily driving needs.

We can provide annual checks on your EV charger, whoever installed it, so it keeps working, keeps its warranty and keeps you on the road. Every manufacturer recommends their units are maintained, and a warranty can be invalidated if they haven’t been.

What our annual service includes:
✔️ Full function and performance testing
✔️ External and internal inspection for water ingress and damaged or worn components
✔️ Inspection of the charging cable, socket and other accessible parts
✔️ Cleaning of the unit
✔️ Inspection of the supply cable, where possible
✔️ Testing of the circuit control equipment, including any RCD and surge protection
✔️ Checking the latest software and firmware is installed
✔️ A certificate recording the testing and inspection

For this business, we put in three twin 22kw Sync Energy pedestal chargers with protection barriers. Wests Digging Services installed the ducting and concrete plinths and reworked the whole car park at the same time.

Since 1st October, VAT on household electricity has dropped from 5% to 0% across England, Scotland and Wales.

For EV drivers charging at home, that means another small saving on the cost of keeping your car on the road.

An average EV driver could save around £20–£25 a year on home charging alone, with higher mileage drivers potentially saving around £35–£40. And when combined with a smart overnight tariff, home charging can already cost significantly less per mile than filling up with petrol.

The VAT cut is another step towards making EV ownership more affordable, particularly for those who can charge at home.
