Citroen Berlingo conversion to Campervan

Citroen Berlingo conversion to Campervan This is a 2018 1.6 Litre diesel Berlingo, which is very reliable as the engines have been proven over many years.

The newer 1.5 Litre model diesels have a reputation for breaking their 7mm camshaft chains, so do check service history carefully.

Just thought I’d show you what I have done to the Van I acquired fromTrevor George this suits me and my needs and slept in it for a few weeks to work out what I needed and I’m pretty happy with it all.

I - Trevor George - have just sold my lovely Berlingo to Carl Davis (Davis Varl) who lives in Hereford, so he will be managing this Page from now onwards, and letting you know about any changes he might be making to the Berlingo interior layout to suit his travelling lifestyle and his use of it 🙏

'Tis time for another update :) After having slept a total of ten nights in my WAV Berlingo I realised I needed more "working" shelf space as I do enjoy a relaxing breakfast and a mid-day meal if I'm not eating out, or if the weather is miserable, so I have added three lightweight fold-away shelves which for me is now perfect for my Micro Camper. The narrow Camit Design cupboard I assembled is working well, although in hindsight I wish I'd bought the slightly longer one, as I've had to modify it with a small shelf on the end to take the length of the small two-ring cooker.
All purchase links are shown in the captions on each image in this post. The cupboard from Camit Design, the sink from Evo Design, and the tap from eBay :)

My simple narrow conversion is going nicely to plan. The modified Camit Design cupboard, now fitted with sink and tap is working well, and I'm going to add a drop-down shelf on the far end (by the sliding door) to put plates, dishes etc onto, for when I'm eating.
It all works, as I can now carry two eBikes side-by-side, with my Temu folding-bed flipped up for when I take my wife off to cycle-ride jaunts.
Or I can carry one eBike alongside the bed in the sleeping position if I'm doing solo overnight stealth-camping in residential streets, or I can lock the eBike outside and have a comfortable sitting and cooking position, with loads of headroom above, as my feet are down in the well of the ramp for this "Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle". I can even attain a hunched standing postion from the lowest part of the ramp near the tailgate, for cleaning teeth etc. Each photo has links to my purchases.

Time for a small update :) I've now slept three comfortable nights in my Berlingo at a Music Festival and carried one eBike with me, but the eBike was securely locked-up outside while I slept. The narrow Camit Design cupboard has now arrived and I've modified it, mostly using a jigsaw, and I've altered it so it sits projecting just 20mm over the lip of the wheelchair ramp which still gives lots of space with my eBike alongside, and I simply remove one pedal so it doesn't scratch against the cupboard. Purchase links are shown in the captions on each image. The cupboard purchased from Camit Design, the sink from Evo Design and the tap from eBay :)
Because of the shape of the Berlingo the extreme right end of the cupboard is full length, but the left side of the drawer is shorter, so I cut off 20mm and fixed on a thin ply back which is tall enough so the drawer won't fall out. I also cut off the drawer-runners on one side with a hacksaw and I'm pleased to say it still it still functions ok.

Slow progress is being made, as I've now received my "Camping Bed" from Temu, but the quality is not up to the standard shown on their website. I've just lightly taped some 'leg-extenders' on so that I can figure our the best way to support the bed. I might bolt on four substantial legs, or I might put blocks underneath fixed to a plywood base, but whatever I do it needs to be easily removable :)

I've made several successful trips in the Berlingo, utilising that lower ramp floor area to carry my eBikes, and I'm now waiting for some basic narrow cupboards and a folding bed to arrive to keep that width available to carry my eBikes (or at least one of them).
All images show purchase links in the captions to each image. My personal choices are a cupboard from Camit, and a Bed / Seat from Temu :) But I've also shown some other slim alternative units which may be helpful to suit other users and convertors.

Today 8th July 2024 I took the plunge and cut off my Wheelchair Ramp from my 2018 WAV Berlingo. I still wanted it to be a 'stubby' ramp, but low enough that I could easily lift shopping over when in the closed postion. so I made a mark 2.5 inches above the top of the structural part, and cut through on that line. I've temporarily finished off the exposed metal parts with a piece of hosepipe, which I slit with a Stanley Knife. Even though it's temporary it seemed to work fine and didn't fall off :) All images have their own descriptions.

Some ideas to convert a WAV Berlingo (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) into a Micro Campervan using slim fittings and a slim bed at the sides, so that eBikes can still be carried on the lowered floor.
