🔧 FK8 Type R Valve Clearances 🔧

We recently had Lee’s FK8 Type R in the workshop for a valve clearance inspection and adjustment.

It’s one of those maintenance items that often gets forgotten about, but it’s an important part of keeping the K20C1 engine performing exactly as Honda intended.

Over time, valve clearances can move out of specification through normal wear. Left unchecked, this can affect engine performance and, in some cases, lead to more costly repairs further down the line.

Many owners are surprised to learn that valve clearances are a scheduled maintenance item and not something that should only be checked when a fault develops.

As part of Lee’s visit, we carried out a full inspection and adjustment where required, ensuring everything was back within Honda’s specification.

❄️ Think Your Air Conditioning Just Needs a Regas? Think Again… ❄️

With the recent warm weather, we’ve had plenty of enquiries about air conditioning systems that aren’t blowing cold.

One thing we don’t do at CM Automotive Bristol is simply regas a system and hope for the best.

Before any refrigerant is added, we carry out testing to make sure the system is capable of holding pressure. Otherwise, you’re simply paying to refill a system that’s going to leak straight back out again.

The video below shows one of the worst leaks we’ve seen in quite some time. The pressure on our digital manifold gauges drops incredibly quickly, making it obvious there was a major fault within the system.

This vehicle would never have a regas until the leak had been identified and repaired.

That’s why we always test first.

⚠️ FK8 Civic Type R Owners – Have You Checked Yours? ⚠️

This is something we’ve come across a few times recently, particularly on vehicles that have spent a lot of their life near the coast.

The FK8 fuel filter is located inside the fuel tank and uses a metal locking ring as part of the assembly. Over time, these locking rings can become heavily corroded, crack, and even damage the fuel pump housing.

The result? Moisture and dirt can find their way into the fuel tank, potentially causing bigger problems down the line. 🔧

This component is due for replacement at 75,000 miles, but many owners aren’t even aware it exists until there’s an issue.

If your FK8 is approaching this mileage, or you’re unsure when it was last replaced, now might be a good time to get it checked.

This week we had a 2015 VW Touareg in from a trade customer, needing coding and radar calibration after a replacement front radar was fitted.

Using ODIS—Volkswagen’s official dealer diagnostic platform, we:
🔐 Gained full security access to remove component protection
⚙️ Coded the new radar sensor into the system via VW servers in Germany
🎯 Calibrated the front radar to factory specification, ensuring adaptive cruise control and front assist systems function exactly as intended
