Today’s jobs on the Countach replica!

Today I’m Dye Penetrant Testing (DPI) the aluminium fuel tanks to check the welds are ok before painting and installing. I’ve still yet to put a fuel return pipe in on one of them but that’s a job for a later date.

What do you do when a part is no longer made? Simple, make a mould of an existing part! Whilst this may seem a simple process it’s not always the case due to the complexity of the shape of the item. The door channel rubber on the Roadster is no longer available but I’ve managed to borrow probably the last NOS one from a friend to copy. I’m only interested in the rubber end part that caps off the door pillar, the door channel is …well just a door channel available easily elsewhere.
To achieve the right hardness (shore) when pouring liquid rubber can take a bit of trial and error. Now I have that correct I now need to build a vacuum chamber as the liquid only has a five minute pot life before hardening and I have to ‘pull’ all the air bubbles out. You can see the first attempt!
Once this side is complete I will pour a hard resin one and my friend who I borrowed this side from will 3D scan it and mirror it for the other side.

Started work on the Countach! So when I put in brake lines I put on the union at the master cylinder end first and run the line, cutting it to length in situ. Then put on the union by clamping the brake swagging machine to the chassis. This content is aimed at the novice and not for most of you that have built cars before.
