💡🔧 DID YOU KNOW?
A WORN WHEEL BEARING DOESN’T ALWAYS START WITH A KNOCK!

We’ve had a few wheel bearing jobs through the workshop this week, so this is a good one to know. 👀

A worn wheel bearing will often start with a humming, rumbling or droning noise that gets louder as your speed increases.

You might also notice:

🛞 The noise changing when you turn
🚗 Vibration through the car
🔊 A grinding noise as it gets worse
⚠️ Excessive play in the wheel in more severe cases

The tricky part? Tyre noise can sometimes sound very similar to a worn wheel bearing, so hearing a drone doesn’t automatically mean the bearing needs replacing.

🔧 That’s why we inspect and diagnose before changing parts.

If your car has developed a new humming or rumbling sound, don’t just turn the radio up! 😂

🔧🚗 WE’VE BEEN QUIET ON HERE… BUT THE WORKSHOP DEFINITELY HASN’T! 😂

We might not have posted much over the last couple of days, but behind the scenes the workshop has been absolutely full and the boys have been grafting! 💪

We’ve had all sorts coming through the doors recently, including:

🔧 Wheel bearings
🛢️ Full & routine services
🛞 Brake pads, discs & suspension work
⚙️ Clutches
🔩 Wishbones & shock absorbers
💻 Sensors & diagnostics
🚗 And plenty of MOTs in between!

It’s been one car out, another one in - exactly how we like it! 🙌

Anyway… the morning rush is DONE and there were some hungry faces in the workshop. 😂

💡 DID YOU KNOW?
YOUR DPF COULD BE THE SYMPTOM, NOT THE PROBLEM!

Yesterday we explained what happens when a DPF becomes blocked.

But before replacing one, we need to ask:

👉 WHY did it become blocked?

The actual cause could be something else:

⚙️ DPF pressure or temperature sensor fault
💨 EGR problems
🌬️ Air or boost leaks
💉 Injector/combustion problems
🌡️ Engine not reaching correct temperature
🚗 Failed or incomplete regenerations

Depending on the diagnosis, the DPF may need a regeneration or professional cleaning rather than replacement.

🔧 Munir’s advice: diagnose the cause first. Replacing an expensive DPF without fixing the underlying fault could mean the same problem comes straight back.

🛢️🔧 ENGINE OIL CHALLENGE!

Your engine has suddenly started using more oil than usual… but there’s no obvious oil leak underneath the car. 👀

What would YOU check first?

A) 💨 Turbo
B) 🔧 Piston rings
C) ⚙️ PCV / breather system
D) 🚗 Valve stem seals

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

WHAT DOES YOUR DPF ACTUALLY DO?

The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) catches soot produced by your diesel engine before it leaves the exhaust. 💨

As soot builds up, the car normally burns it off through a process called regeneration.

But if the DPF becomes too blocked, you might notice:

🚨 DPF or engine warning light
🐌 Loss of power / limp mode
⛽ Poorer fuel economy
🚗 Difficulty accelerating
🌡️ Cooling fans running more than usual

Lots of short journeys can contribute because the car may not get the conditions it needs to complete a regeneration.

👀 But here's the important bit…

A DPF warning DOESN’T automatically mean you need a new DPF.

Tomorrow we’ll explain what else can cause a DPF fault and why simply replacing the DPF might not fix the problem.

🔧💨 THE BOYS ARE BATTLING WITH A DPF ON THIS JAGUAR TODAY!

Some jobs look straightforward when the car first comes in… this isn’t always one of them! 😅

The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is part of the exhaust system and is designed to trap soot produced by a diesel engine.

Depending on the vehicle, getting to the DPF can mean tight access, stubborn bolts and removing other components just to get it out. 🔧😩

That’s why a DPF job can sometimes take considerably longer than you’d expect.

The boys are grafting away though patience, plenty of tools and probably a few cups of tea needed for this one and a biscuit or 2! ☕😂

🔧 ASK MUNIR

💬 “My steering wheel shakes when I brake at higher speeds - what could be causing it?”

If you notice the steering wheel juddering or vibrating when you press the brakes, it’s definitely worth getting checked. 👀

Possible causes can include:

🔧 Brake disc issues — uneven disc thickness or run-out can cause vibration under braking
🛞 Worn suspension components -movement in bushes or joints can make the problem worse
⚙️ Wheel or hub issues- can sometimes contribute to vibration
🚗 Tyre/wheel problems- especially if you’re also getting vibration when you’re NOT braking

Munir’s advice: Don’t automatically assume it just needs new brake discs. We’d rather inspect the car first, find the actual cause and replace only what’s needed. 👍

If your steering wheel has suddenly started shaking under braking, don’t ignore it especially if it’s getting worse.
