🔧 Sometimes, the right diagnosis can save you thousands! 💰

We had the pleasure of investigating a rather unusual problem with the air suspension on this BMW.

The car had developed a noticeable lean to the left, leaving the customer frustrated and searching for answers.

They’d previously visited another workshop and were told they’d need a new suspension compressor - a repair that certainly wasn’t going to be cheap! 😬

After carrying out our own investigation, removing and testing the components, we discovered the real culprit: an internal fault in the valve block.

After a bit of hunting, we tracked down the necessary replacement part, fitted it, and recalibrated the suspension system.

And voilà! 🎉 Problem solved, suspension sitting right, and thousands of dollars saved on an unnecessary repair. Happy days all round! 🙌

Unfortunately, we hear too many stories of customers paying for hours of diagnostics, only to be handed their keys back with no real answers.

At Upton’s, we believe good diagnostics are about more than just plugging in a scan tool and guessing at parts. It’s about taking the time to investigate, understand the problem and find the right solution.

🔧 IT’S NOT ALWAYS WHAT IT SEEMS! 👀

This Hilux came to us with a frustrating problem - intermittently, the gears simply wouldn’t shift while driving.

Sometimes the customer couldn’t change gears at all, and other times it took both hands to reef the stick into gear! 😬... naturally, that had the customer thinking the worst - potentially a full gearbox replacement. 💸

But after removing the gearbox, we found the culprit was the clutch pressure plate.
A cheap clutch had previously been installed and was showing some very unusual wear.

The end result? 🙌
✅ A better quality clutch
✅ An intact gearbox
✅ Smooth gear changes again
✅ And a happy customer! (Which is the most important part obviously!)

Sometimes the problem isn’t always obvious - which is why proper diagnosis matters. 🔧

🔧 A snapped bolt shouldn’t mean the whole engine has to come out... right? 🥴
Well... sometimes it does. 😅

This Corolla was towed in to us after the customer was luckily quick enough to stop driving and give us a call when the car started to overheat and lose power - before any engine damage was done. 🙌

We found the cause was a drive belt tensioner bolt that had snapped.
Sounds like a pretty straightforward fix... except this particular bolt had other ideas. 🔩

Unfortunately, in order to extract said bolt, we needed to remove the entire engine.

The good news? We had it out, replaced the bolt (along with a few other bits while we were in there), and had it back in and running the same day! ✅
