Darwin’s BIGGEST Picnic. 👀

On Sunday 30 August, Fort Hill Parkland is getting together for an afternoon of good food, live music, family time and that laid-back Darwin feeling we all love.

🌿 The green space is doubling in size to around 16,000 square metres.
🎶 There’ll be live music.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Plenty of space for families, friends and neighbours.
🍓 You can grab a bite to eat, or better yet, pack your own picnic basket.
🌅 And then there’s the best bit... staying to watch the sunset over the coastline.

Honestly, this sounds like the perfect Darwin Sunday.

So grab your favourite people, pack the picnic rug and come help make it BIG.

🌅 Okay, hear us out...
The Esplanade is probably one of those places you drive past in Darwin without really thinking about stopping, but you should.

It runs along Darwin Harbour with tropical gardens, shady spots, walking paths and some pretty lovely views, especially as the sun starts to drop.

🌴 Take a wander.
🌊 Watch the boats come and go.
👣 Take the walking paths.
📸 Find a spot overlooking the water.
🪖 Stop at the USS Peary Memorial and explore some of Darwin’s history.
🌅 And stay until the sky does that whole golden, pink and purple thing Darwin sunsets do so well.

It’s amazing how somewhere so peaceful can be so close to the city. You don’t need another attraction on the itinerary. You just need to stop for a minute and enjoy where you are.

❤️ Walk Uluru. See the heart of Australia from the ground up.

Some places are too special to simply drive past. To truly experience Uluru, slow down, take your time and explore it on foot.
🚶 Walk alongside the ancient sandstone walls and discover the changing colours, textures and stories that make this place so extraordinary.
🌿 Follow the paths around the base of Uluru, from the peaceful Kuniya Walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole to the longer Uluru Base Walk, where every step reveals a new perspective.
🌅 Watch the desert light transform Uluru from deep reds to glowing oranges and soft purples as the sun moves across the sky.
❤️ Most importantly, remember that Uluru is a deeply significant cultural place for the Anangu Traditional Owners. Walk with respect, listen to the stories, and leave this incredible place exactly as you found it.

Because Uluru isn’t just something you see. It’s something you feel.

Standing high above the ancient sandstone cliffs of Nitmiluk Gorge, Pat’s Lookout is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Katherine and a must-visit on any Northern Territory road trip.

The Windolf Walk is an 8.4 km return hike that winds through rugged escarpment country to Pat’s Lookout, with the option to continue to Jedda Rock and, during the right season, the Southern Rockhole. Along the way you’ll be rewarded with incredible views over the Katherine River, where tour boats weave through the spectacular gorge below.

If you’re planning a Top End adventure, set off early in the cooler months, pack plenty of water, wear sturdy walking shoes and don’t forget your camera, this is one of those views you’ll want to remember forever.

With unlimited kilometres, you can take the scenic route and discover the very best of Katherine and Nitmiluk National Park at your own pace.

🌿 Looking for one of the Top End’s most relaxing swimming spots? Mataranka Thermal Pool should be on your list.

💧 The crystal-clear thermal waters stay at a warm 34°C all year, making it the perfect place to slow down and unwind.

🌴 Surrounded by towering palms and tropical bushland, it’s easy to see why this is one of the Territory’s most photographed natural pools.

🐢 Take your time and keep an eye out for native fish and turtles as you float through the spring-fed waters. Please remember not to feed the wildlife.

🎟️ Before you travel, check that Elsey National Park is open and don’t forget your NT Parks Visitor Pass.

🚙 Planning a road trip? Mataranka is one of those places you’ll be talking about long after you’ve left the Northern Territory. Follow .com.au for NT travel tip and luxury 4wd hire to get you there.
