Past Rotary International President Louis Giay would often say. ‘The future is not out there to be met. The future is here waiting to be created’. Dr Berenika Turchin is of this ilk. As Director of Emergency at Manning Base Hospital she has embraced the role and is very much a can-do leader from the front.
Dr Turchin recently addressed the Rotary Club of Taree on how the community can engage and support its vital emergency department.

It appears Taree is experiencing an uncontrolled rampant crime wave. Where local youth smile with impunity at CCTV cameras and casually carry out wanton vandalism and destruction to business premises. On Saturday morning last at 12.10 am three youths tried to break into Cleavers Tyres through a front window causing around $3000 damage. They became tired, sat down in the main street for 15 odd minutes and then wandered down the street to the CBD. Saturday morning saw six or seven businesses targeted by criminals. Last night at 2.31am youths casually picked up some rocks at the Shell across the road, threw them through Cleavers Tyres side windows and then threw the shattered glass into three lanes of traffic on the main road in front of the store. They then casually walked off to the United Servo opposite under the full glare of CCTV cameras and met up with some of their friends who arrived by car. What's going to happen tonight I wonder?
