❄️ AC Leak Detection with Fluorescent Dye! 🔍

Did you know fluorescent dye can help pinpoint leaks in your vehicle’s air conditioning system? 🧊

When added to the AC system, the dye circulates with the refrigerant and oil, escaping through any leaks. Under UV light, it glows brightly, making it easier to identify the source of the problem and carry out the correct repair.

Regular AC inspections help keep your system cooling efficiently and prevent small leaks from turning into bigger problems! 🛠️

EA839 Rocker Arm Failure ⚠️

Another Audi/VW/Porsche 3.0T EA839 on the engine stand, this time due to a rocker arm failure.

The EA839 is a fantastic V6, but early-production engines have a well-documented weak point in the valvetrain. The original rocker arms use small needle bearings that can wear or disintegrate, allowing the roller to stop operating correctly against the camshaft.

Once a rocker bearing starts to fail, the damage can escalate quickly. The rocker can damage the camshaft lobe, while the failed bearing can release small metal components into the engine oil. In severe cases, this debris can circulate through the lubrication system and result in much more extensive engine damage.

One of the most common early warning signs is an unusual ticking or tapping noise from the top of the engine, although not every ticking EA839 has a rocker arm problem. Catching the issue early can make the difference between a valvetrain repair and a complete engine rebuild or replacement.

Audi subsequently revised the rocker arm design, with the updated version featuring changes to the needle bearing arrangement and other dimensions to improve durability.

🔧 If you own an early EA839-equipped vehicle, it’s worth knowing which rocker arm revision your engine has. If a failure is suspected, the rocker arms, camshafts and engine oil/filter should be inspected carefully for signs of damage or metallic debris before simply replacing the failed component.

If your EA839 has developed an unusual valvetrain noise, don’t ignore it! Early diagnosis can save a very expensive engine repair.
