AMG Mercedes Steering Wheel Upgrade

We just gave this Mercedes-AMG a fresh grip with a custom flat-bottom wheel finished in a carbon-fibre-style weave and premium Alcantara, topped with a clean red centre stripe. Every factory control, drive-mode dial and AMG satellite was carefully transferred across so it all works exactly like it should.

A couple of honest notes, because that is how we work:

This is a carbon-look finish, not structural carbon. All of that premium aesthetic and hand-feel, none of the forged-carbon price tag.

On cars with a steering wheel vibration actuator, lane assist may behave differently with an aftermarket wheel. We always flag this before we start.

These wheels are genuinely tricky to fit. Between the airbag, the delicate control transfers and getting everything aligned, it is one we strongly recommend leaving to a workshop rather than the driveway. Done once, done right.

Not every transmission service is the same.

Many late-model Mercedes-Benz vehicles no longer have a dipstick or even a traditional level plug to check the transmission fluid. Instead, Mercedes specifies an ultrasonic measuring system that accurately checks the fluid level while taking the transmission temperature into account.

This isn't equipment found in most workshops. It's a specialised tool designed specifically for Mercedes-Benz transmissions, and it's used alongside the factory Mercedes Xentry diagnostic system to ensure the fluid level is set exactly as intended.

Getting the level right is important. Too much or too little transmission fluid can affect shift quality, performance and long-term reliability.

VW or Audi key won’t turn in the ignition?

The key may not be the problem.

A failed steering lock can prevent the key from turning, stop the ignition from switching on and leave the vehicle unable to start. It is a common issue on several Volkswagen and Audi models, including:

- Volkswagen Golf 5, 6 and 7
- Volkswagen Tiguan
- Audi A3
- Other VW and Audi vehicles with a key blade ignition

This repair involves removing the airbag, steering components and factory security bolts, so it is not recommended as a DIY job.
