265kW to 461.9kW. At the wheels. From a 2.0-litre four. 🔥

This Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S came to us with a locked ECU, which used to mean a long wait before any tuning could start. Not anymore. Our new quick-unlock process had it ready to tune in a fraction of the time, then we got to work.

The build:
🔧 High-flow downpipe
🔧 Intake upgrade
🔧 Blow-off valve
🔧 Stage 2 custom dyno tune

Baseline: 265.0kW / 434Nm
Tune final: 461.9kW / 700Nm

That's around 619hp at the wheels.

Audi RS6. Part 2. 🔥

Remember Part 1 ended with a locked ECU? Here's how it finished.

Phase 1 was the Akrapovič exhaust and Eventuri intake. Phase 2 was the ECU unlock through our new quick-unlock process, then downpipes, upgraded intercoolers and a Stage 2 custom tune on our dyno.

Baseline: 460.7kW / 832Nm
Tune final: 505.3kW / 912Nm

That's over 500kW at the wheels from a twin-turbo 4.0 V8 wagon, with the gains right through the mid-range where you actually use it. Around 678hp at the wheels.

And it still does the school run.

Locked ECU? Not a dead end anymore.

Many late-model Euro cars now leave the factory with a locked ECU. Until recently, unlocking one meant a long wait before any tuning could start.

We now have a much faster unlock process for:

Our earlier post about Bathurst 1995 sparked some discussion about this.

1995 is often remembered for Perkins and Ingall going from last to first. Here's the bit most people forget: they started 3rd.

On lap 1, Perkins made contact with pole-sitter Craig Lowndes and damaged a tyre valve. He dropped to second-last and pitted for a new tyre. Then they worked back through the field all day, and took the lead with 10 laps to go when Glenn Seton's Falcon dropped a valve.

So has anyone actually won from dead last? Once.

Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris were excluded from qualifying and started 25th of 25. They won.

Only a handful of winners have come from outside the top 10. Swipe for the list. And yes, Steven Richards is on three of them.

It's Bathurst week. 🏁

Power Torque started in racing: V8 Supercars, Sport Sedans, Power Boats and Drag Racing. So when the Great Race rolls around, the workshop talk turns to one thing.

This year's grid has a new name on it. Mustang and Camaro have company, with Toyota's Supra lining up at the Mountain for the first time.

1000km. 161 laps. Everything has to hold together, and the engine most of all.

In all the years he's been running Power Torque, you'd never hear this story from him. Mark doesn't talk about himself. So we'll do it for him.

Bathurst, 1995. Mark and Kevin Waldock in an EF Falcon. Started 24th. Finished 8th.

Sixteen places made up around the Mountain, and he's never once brought it up at the workshop.

(Could be becuase it's a Ford? We'll let him off...)

Audi RS6. Phase 1 done. 🔥

The factory exhaust came off and the Akrapovič system went on, with wiring run for the valves. Carbon tips and a much meaner voice for the twin-turbo V8.

Up front, the Eventuri carbon intake replaces the factory airbox. It looks the part, and it's also the airflow this car needs for what comes next.

Next up was the Stage 2 tune. When we went to read the ECU, it was locked. Plenty of late-model Euro ECUs come locked from the factory, so this one's off to be unlocked before we go any further.

It's back in Monday for the unlock, downpipes, intercoolers and the Stage 2 tune. Dyno numbers in Part 2.

505.2kW / 677.5HP at 6113RPM. Every part planned as one job and proven before it left the workshop.

This HSV Clubsport came in for a full engine-out rebuild. Not a bolt-on. Not a part-by-part job. One planned build, start to finish.

What went in:
- Engine out for full access
- Cam package with upgraded rocker trunnions
- CNC-ported cylinder heads
- Race balancer, all gaskets replaced
- Harrop FDFI 2300 supercharger
- Twin-plate clutch
- In-tank fuel pump upgrade
- New O2 sensors, AC line and regas
- Full custom dyno tune

Even we can't agree in the workshop on what stage to call it.
