A Silverado will tow 4.5 tonnes.
Whether it can legally carry everything that comes with the van is a different question, and it's the one that catches people out.
Towball download alone can take 300kg or more off your payload before you've packed a thing. Add fuel, passengers, a canopy and gear and the factory rating is gone quicker than anyone expects.
This 1500 was built to tour properly, so we started with the capacity to do it.
✅ An Offroad Industries 4x4 Stage 2 GVM upgrade, fitted and engineer-certified after registration, raising what the truck is legally rated to carry.
✅ A 185L tank in place of the factory 91L, so it holds just over double the fuel.
✅ load assist airbags, so the rear can be adjusted to suit whatever is on board that week.
✅ An Anderson plug, so the van keeps charging while it's being towed.
The GVM upgrade came first because everything else adds weight.
The tank accounts for around 70kg on its own once it's full.
The airbags then handle the day-to-day, because a truck packed for a fortnight away sits very differently to the same truck on a Tuesday morning on site.
The Anderson plug is a small job that matters by the third day of a trip.
If you've done the sums on your own truck and the numbers are tighter than you'd like, give the team a call.
