What started as a Solwezi man’s attempt to make the shoes he couldn’t find has turned into a growing Zambian leather shoe business.

Evans Bwalya taught himself shoemaking through YouTube after struggling to find the type of shoes he wanted. Today, he produces around 100 pairs a month from his workshop at Solwezi Industrial Yard.

Now, with equipment support from Kansanshi Mining Plc’s Business Accelerator Programme, Bwalya is aiming to increase production to 300 pairs a month.

The new equipment includes five additional sewing machines and other tools, while the business is also training more people to support the expansion.

It’s a powerful example of what can happen when local skills, entrepreneurship and the right support come together.

From making shoes for himself to wanting to clothe the rest of Zambia. 🇿🇲🔥
