Egyptian referee Shahenda Saad Ali Elmaghrabi has been selected by CAF as the centre referee for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 final between Cameroon 🇨🇲 and Malawi 🇲🇼.

The 35-year-old will officiate her third consecutive WAFCON, having also taken charge at the 2022 and 2024 editions. She made history in 2022 as the first female referee to officiate an Egyptian Premier League match.

The Copper Queens' 2-1 victory over Malawi's Scorchers was unfortunately not enough to secure a place in the WAFCON quarter-finals, as the final group standings were decided by the tournament's tie-breaking rules.

While Zambia did their part by claiming all three points against Malawi, Nigeria's emphatic 6-2 victory over Egypt proved decisive, giving the Super Falcons the advantage needed to progress.

It was a cruel end for the Copper Queens, who showed determination and character to defeat Malawi but were ultimately denied a knockout spot based on the competition's regulations and tie-break criteria.

Many fans and pundits didn't see this coming, but the Copper Queens head into the break with the advantage after an impressive first-half display.

Zambia have not only taken the lead but have also produced a disciplined defensive performance, limiting Malawi's attacking threat and dictating the tempo whenever the Flames tried to push forward. The backline has been organized, composed, and difficult to break down.

In the other Group C encounter, the Super Falcons of Nigeria are also in front against Egypt. However, Egypt have given themselves hope by pulling a goal back before the interval, setting up an intriguing second half.
