Rodney Sikumba does not quite fit the mould of a typical government minister. With nearly two decades in the private sector before stepping into public office, he brings a commercial instinct to a role often defined by policy and protocol.

His return to Livingstone at 35—leaving corporate to build a tourism business—was less a pivot and more a return to something personal. “I rediscovered my love for tourism,” he says.

Alright okes, 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀.
Screenshot this. Write it on a sticky note. Tattoo it on your cooler lid if you must.

I’m calling it now... and I’m not guessing, I’ve been digging.

𝗦𝘂𝘇𝘂𝗸𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝟴 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿.
Not next year. Not “maybe”. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿.

And before the comment section starts foaming at the mouth, let me tell you 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯-𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘇𝘂𝗸𝗶 𝗩𝟴 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄
First things first...look around.
Everyone has moved to V8.

Suzuki is literally the only major brand still standing there like:
“Ja nee, our V6 is fine.”

Except… it’s not fine anymore.

Their current 𝟰.𝟰𝗟 𝗩𝟲 (𝟯𝟱𝟬𝗵𝗽) is 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁. Properly.
That block is at its ceiling.

There is 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 you’re squeezing:
• 400hp
• 450hp
out of that V6 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
And Suzuki does not play that game.

They’re a 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 brand. Always have been.

So if Suzuki wants to answer the market... and they have to, there’s only one move left.

𝗚𝗼 𝗩𝟴.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁
That “𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗘𝗥𝗔” teaser campaign Suzuki dropped?

Let’s be honest...
You don’t hype a midrange motor like it’s the second coming.

That’s not:
• a facelift
• a colour change
• a slightly lighter cowling

That’s how you tease a 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

Big secret.
Big drama.
Big statement.

This smells like a halo motor, not a 200hp refresh.

𝗠𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜’𝗺 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲)
Here’s what makes sense... both technically and for Suzuki’s DNA:

• 𝗩𝟴
• 𝟱.𝟬 – 𝟱.𝟮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
• 𝟰𝟬𝟬–𝟰𝟱𝟬𝗵𝗽
• 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘀 (Suzuki will never give that up)
• 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴
• 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝘆-𝗯𝘆-𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗲

That’s the sweet spot.

Could they go bigger?
Yes.

A 𝟱𝟬𝟬–𝟱𝟱𝟬𝗵𝗽 𝗩𝟴 is possible if they want to punch Mercury Marine square in the face.

But knowing Suzuki?
They’ll choose 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀.

What it won’t be:
• V12 (too heavy, too expensive, too niche)
• 400hp V6 (unsafe compression, not Suzuki style)

𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴? 𝗦𝗼𝗼𝗻.
I’m betting:
• 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: First half of this year
• 𝗦𝗔 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Hopefully late this year (fingers crossed)

And if this lands…
𝗦𝘂𝘇𝘂𝗸𝗶’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿.

They already sit around 𝟱𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗔 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁.
That’s moer baie.

Now imagine:
• A Suzuki V8
• Suzuki pricing
• Suzuki reliability

Ja nee. Chaos.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗔 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆
Bass boats? They’re coming.
• Mercury still dominates, yes
• But every weekend I see more Suzukis creeping in

23–25ft bowriders?
• There are a few hulls locally that can actually handle this

And price… my tjom…
• Same horsepower
• Same V8
• Probably half the price of Mercury

Suzuki has been klapping everyone left, right and centre on value.
If they do that again at the top end?

It’s over for a lot of brand loyalty arguments.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸…
Go rewatch that teaser.

You can’t fully see it... but you can feel it.

This thing is going to look:
• Aggressive
• Angry

Like Suzuki said:
“Alright, hold my sake.”
(Japanese mampoer, for the cultured okes)

This isn’t going to be soft or conservative.
This is revenge energy.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘀...
If Suzuki drops a 𝟰𝟬𝟬–𝟰𝟱𝟬𝗵𝗽 𝗩𝟴:
• What would you hang it on?
• Bass boat?
• Big bowrider?
• Offshore rig?
