WORK AND SERVICE HISTORY
Paperwork is the key to knowing what was done, when it was done, who did it, and what the cost was.
We regularly get told by customers that when they bought the bike, it was serviced before they bought it, or it was just recently serviced.
It’s very important to remember that if there is no paperwork, then the chances are the work either wasn’t done, or it was only an engine oil change (not a service).
A worthy service provider will provide an invoice that clearly shows what work was carried out and what parts were used.
Even the type or spec of oil that was used is important. It should be “JASO” spec motorcycle oil and it should at least be “wet clutch” compatible oil.
An older high-mileage bike or one with a comprehensive up-to-date work history is often worth more than one with low mileage and no history.
When it comes to maintaining a bike, there doesn’t need to be any surprises at all.
Maintenance and especially preventative maintenance is either up to date or it isn’t.
Don’t be surprised, rather be prepared.
