❄️ Is Your Car AC Blowing Hot Air? Stay cool with Marine Drive Motors.

Your car’s AC is a closed-loop system that uses refrigerant gas to cool the air inside your cabin. Over time, refrigerant levels drop as the gas gradually leaks through worn seals and hoses. When that happens, your AC loses its ability to cool effectively — and eventually stops working altogether.

Signs your AC needs attention: 🌡️ Air coming through the vents is warm or barely cool 🌡️ The system takes much longer than usual to cool the cabin 🌡️ Unusual noises when the AC is switched on 🌡️ A musty smell coming from the vents.

A professional re-gas service replenishes the refrigerant, includes a full system check, and a leak inspection — so you’re not just cool for a week, you’re sorted for the season.

Every tyre sold legally in South Africa has small rubber bar built into the groove of the tread.

They sit about 1.6mm from the base of the groove — and they’re called tread wear indicators. You’ve probably driven over them thousands of times without knowing they exist.

When your tyre tread wears down to the level of those bars, the bars become flush with the tyre surface. That’s your tyre telling you: “I’m done. Replace me.”

Here’s why that matters beyond just the law:
Tyre tread channels water away from the contact patch between your tyre and the road. The deeper the tread, the faster water escapes, the better your grip in the wet.

At 1.6mm of tread depth, stopping distances in wet conditions increase by up to 44% compared to a tyre at 3mm.

On the KZN South Coast — where afternoon summer downpours are practically a daily event — worn tyres aren’t just an inconvenience. They’re genuinely dangerous.

✅ Coin check: Place a R1 coin into your tyre groove. If you can see the silver rim of the coin clearly, your tread is dangerously low.

🔧 Monday Mechanics Tip #2 | Your Car could be Running a Fever — And You may not realize it.

Your car’s engine operates at an optimal temperature of between 90°C and 105°C. Combustion engines are most efficient, most powerful and produce the least emissions.

Your cooling system — the radiator, coolant, thermostat, water pump, and hoses — exists for one purpose: to keep your engine locked at that temperature no matter what conditions you’re driving in.

Now here’s the part most drivers miss: an engine can be overheating long before the temperature needle creeps into the red. A slow coolant leak, a failing thermostat, or a blocked radiator can gradually push temperatures higher over weeks — with no dramatic warning.

Signs your cooling system needs attention before it becomes an emergency:

🌡️ Temperature gauge sitting higher than usual 🌡️ Sweet smell from under the bonnet (that is a coolant burning off)
🌡️ White smoke from the exhaust.

An overheated engine cracks your cylinder head and is one of the most expensive things to repair in motor car.

Because Monday is now Tuesday…

🔧 Mechanical Monday - Tip #1 - Don’t drop your lipstick - check your oil with a dipstick!

Here’s something that will make you feel either smug or slightly guilty.

The single most important thing you can do to extend your engine’s life costs you absolutely nothing and takes less time than making a cup of coffee.

Check your oil level. Every two weeks. With a dipstick.

Here’s why it matters more than most people realise: modern engines run at incredibly tight tolerances. The gap between a piston and its cylinder wall is thinner than a human hair.

Oil is what keeps those surfaces from grinding each other to dust. When oil drops below the minimum level — even slightly — those tolerances start to fail. Heat builds. Metal meets metal & the damage is often irreversible before any warning light even flickers on.

✅ Pull the dipstick. Wipe it. Reinsert it. Check the level. Takes 90 seconds.
✅ If it’s below the minimum mark, top up before you drive another kilometre.

That’s the kind of thing they don’t put in the owner’s manual in big enough letters.
