'Shop made tools - Profile Gauge
I made some years ago using plastic straps but was not 100% happy with how they worked - today I used some of the left over components, and knocked the teeth off a section of ½" bandsaw blade to spot weld them to. Much better 😎

Good welds start with accurate fit up, good preparation, and taking the time to tack it all together in perfect alignment.
Then just burn it in and smooth it out.

Another great course this weekend! Well done Nkululeko, Ben and Theo, you guys did some good work getting to grips with various aspects of recreating different shapes and parts, all done with hand tools only. And really happy that you each gained a bunch of knowledge to move your projects forward with confidence.

Building cars from scratch means checking fit and clearances every step of the way. Busy fabricating the SLR door inners - the seal on the a-pillar needs to sit just right to close tightly without fouling during opening and closing.

Deleting the factory overlapped seams on the '34 Chev.
Replicating the moulding detail takes some thought:
The top section is simple step dies with a little stretching after to create the extra material on the bigger radius.
For the lower part I could have made up dies to form it, but decided to play on the beadroller - floating lower shaft and some spacers (basically different thickness and diameter washers) allowed me to form this in just a few passes without having the 'correct shaped dies.
After that just weld her up and weld her in.😎

Thursday tips and tricks:
I needed to create these two rolls to start shaping this sectionof the door inner.
Using a folder / bending brake you can avoid forming hard facets at each bend increment and end up with a smooth roll by placing a piece of rubber between the material and the top leaf (clamping bar) when bending.
