Honouring and Carrying Out the Legacy: Legends Never Die!
It first started in 1985 when the late Tony Viana and mechanic, Kobus van der Watt, decided to possibly make history (which he did indeed) by attempting to build the world’s first ever BMW 7 Series race car. Their main goal was to use the powerful 3.0i litre (M88) engine of the BMW (E23) 745i engine. Success! Tony Viana went onto win the 1985 Group One Championship, making it the first ever BMW 7 Series race car in motorsport worldwide. Tony Viana and his BMW 745i Winfield were unstoppable and LEGENDS in motorsport history. Racing Legend and Beloved Father and Husband, may he Rest In Peace.
Tony Viana Motorsport is officially up and running! The company was started in December 2018 by Tony Viana’s Son (Tony Viana Jnr). Starting and opening Tony Viana Motorsport has been one of Tony’s biggest dreams, especially because it is like a tribute to his father. Speed and passion for motorsport definitely runs in the family! Tony’s goal is to carry out the knowledge his father taught him and walk in his fathers footsteps and make his own history, which he has already begun! In 2004 Tony Viana Jnr broke the record for the FASTEST M5 in SA clocking at 327 km/h using GPS! Owned by Tony Viana the V8 developed 362 KW of power from its 5Lt engine that was modified with a ceramic coated airbox, ram feed airducts, cams, branches, pipes and throttle bodies.
Tony approached ChipLogic ( German Auto Logic's sister company) because he felt that his stock, standard M5 was just not fast enough! The company then set about importing all the components that go into the famous Nowack M5 from Germany. ChipLogic then remapped his entire engine management system for the car to cope with the higher demands of all the hardware. The result of the modification is a whopping 327 km/h that will easily overtake a flat footed Porsche 911 Turbo on the Autobahn, running on 93 leaded! He then met the ultimate software tuning specialist, the late OB Moodley (May He Rest In Peace) and not only built a beastly M5 but formed a brotherhood. TVM thus is also in remembrance of OB Moodley..
