Legislation Update: Compulsory Child Restraints in SA / Car Seats for Kids

Choosing the correct Child Restraints / Baby Seats/ Booster Seats / Car Seats

Infant: Birth-1 Year - A rear-facing child restraint system (sometimes called an “infant car seat”) provides the best protection for infants until they are 1 year of age.

Children: aged 1–4 years - The integral harness secures the child and spreads the crash forces over a wide area. This seat will last them until either their weight exceeds 18 kg or they grow too tall for the height of the adjustable harness.

Children: aged 4–6 years - Booster seats are best used only when a child has outgrown a safety seat. They are designed for weights from 15 kg to 25 kg.

Children: aged 6–11 years -
Booster cushions without backs are designed for weights from 22 kg to 36 kg,

Children should continue to ride in a booster seat until the lap and diagonal belts in the car fit properly, typically when they are approximately 145 centimetres (cm) tall

The No. 23 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 driven by Jann Mardenborough caught air at the Nurburgring sending the race car over the fence into the spectator section killing one and injuring several others, sportscar365.com reports.

The crash occurred during the second hour of the opening round of the VLN series Saturday on a part of the track known as the Flugplatz; loosely translated as "flying place." The Flugplatz is a twin apex right-hand turn following a blind crest.

A red flag was immediately issued stopping the race so medical vehicles could get to the scene. The spectator was pronounced dead at the track's medical center and four injured spectators were taken to an area hospital. Although the racer was able to exit the vehicle on his own, he was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. Officials cancelled the remainder of the race after the crash.
