Last week, the GridCars team attended Solar & Storage Live Africa (25–27 March) a fantastic few days connecting with industry leaders, innovators, and partners across the energy space.

It’s clear that the momentum behind renewable energy and storage in South Africa continues to grow, and it’s exciting to be part of the conversations shaping what comes next.

A highlight for us was our Managing Director, Winstone Jordaan, speaking on the EV & Charge stage, where he shared insights on the future of EV charging and GridCars’ plans for the year ahead.

From insightful discussions to seeing the latest technologies on display, events like these reinforce the important role collaboration plays in building a more sustainable and electrified future.

We’re incredibly proud to be supporting Rainer Zietlow, eight-time Guinness World Record holder, on his ambitious mission to break the world record for the most countries visited in a single trip in an electric vehicle.

Driving an all-electric VW ID. Buzz, Rainer is proving that EVs aren’t just for short city commutes. They’re built for real adventure, real distance, and real impact.

His South African journey has already taken him from Durban to Kokstad, Mthatha, Uitenhage, and Johannesburg, where he stopped by our new GridCars offices to meet the team and power up.

Now he’s heading onward to Eswatini and Mozambique, continuing his epic global tour, one charge at a time.

This journey isn’t just about records. It’s about showing the world that electric mobility is ready, reliable, and capable of connecting countries, communities, and continents. And we’re proud that the GridCars network was chosen to help power his route across Southern Africa.

Empowering the Next Generation of EV Innovators in Kagiso!

Last week, GridCars had the privilege of joining TBS ASTEMIE NPO for a 5-day EV Technology Awareness Workshop in Kagiso, and what an inspiring experience it was! Over the course of the program, learners from technical schools, electrical engineering students, and passionate community members explored the rapidly expanding world of electric mobility. The workshop covered everything from EV systems and battery technologies to charging infrastructure, renewable energy, and the growing career opportunities in South Africa’s green economy.

More than 45 participants completed the workshop, received certificates of attendance, and were equipped with electrical tools sponsored by SANEDI to support their continued learning and technical growth. This initiative is a brilliant example of what collaboration can achieve. We’re proud to support projects that open doors, spark curiosity, and help build a skilled, future-ready workforce in South Africa’s EV sector.
