Those chilly mornings aren’t just tough on you — they’re tough on your vehicle too. Here are 5 things to check before winter really starts to bite:

🔋 Battery
Cold weather puts extra strain on your battery. If it’s been more than 2–3 years, get it tested. A flat battery on a dark winter morning is not the vibe.

🛢️ Engine Oil
Oil thickens in the cold, making it harder for your engine to get going. Check your levels and make sure you’re using the correct oil grade.

💡 Lights
Winter means darker mornings and evenings. Check all your lights — headlights, brake lights, indicators. Don’t let a faulty bulb catch you out.

🛞 Tyre Pressure
Tyre pressure drops as temperatures fall. Under-inflated tyres affect your grip and your fuel economy. Give them a check - takes 5 minutes.

🌡️ Coolant / Antifreeze
Make sure your coolant mix is right to protect your engine on those cold starts.

Maintenance Tips Monday 🔧

🛞 1. Check Your Tyre Pressure Monthly
Under-inflated tyres wear unevenly, reduce fuel efficiency, and can be dangerous — especially on SA roads. Check your tyre pressure at least once a month and always before a long trip. Don't forget the spare!

🛢️ 2. Change Your Oil Regularly
Engine oil is your car's lifeblood. Check it every few weeks and follow your manufacturer's recommended oil change interval (usually every 10,000–15,000 km). Old, dirty oil causes serious engine wear over time.

💧 3. Top Up All Fluid Levels
Beyond engine oil, regularly check your coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windscreen washer fluid. Low coolant in particular can lead to overheating — a costly repair that's easily avoided.

🪫 4. Keep an Eye on Your Battery
Car batteries typically last 3–5 years. Watch out for slow engine starts or dim lights — these are early warning signs. Clean any corrosion off the terminals and have your battery tested annually, especially heading into winter.

⚠️ 5. Don't Ignore Your Brakes
If you hear squealing, grinding, or your car pulls to one side when braking, get it checked immediately. Brake pads should be inspected regularly and replaced before they wear down to the metal — your safety depends on it!
