The Mechanics of the Sherco electronic power valve system

The Sherco two-stroke (125, 250, and 300 SE Factory models) make use of Sherco's highly refined SBS electronic power valve system. For the 2027 model year, Sherco purposefully retained its perfected and proven pairing of a traditional Keihin PWK 36 carburetor with an electronically controlled valve rather than moving to full electronic fuel injection.

This combination gives the bike the crisp, classic "snap" of a carbureted engine but with a smart, linear power delivery that mirrors an electric bike.

How it works
The power valve system functions as a bridge between analogue fueling and digital engine management:
• Digital Electronic Actuation: The engine utilizes a DC-CDI ignition system with digital advance. Instead of the adjustable mechanical governor spinning on gears to move a lever used by Sherco’s competitors, a dedicated electronic servo actuator motor controls the power valve.
• Dynamic ECU Processing: The ignition unit continually calculates exactly where the power valve flapper needs to sit based on real-time RPM changes. It then drives the servo motor via heavy-duty actuator to adjust the exhaust port's height instantly.
• Synergy with the VForce 4R: The electronic valve works in tandem with a VForce 4R reed valve system. By perfectly matching exhaust port backpressure (via the power valve) with incoming crankcase pressure (via the reed valves), the engine prevents loading up or bogging, ensuring perfect, crisp jetting across the entire RPM range.

Interaction with the 2027 Map Switch
Because the valve is fully electronic, Sherco ties its position directly to the handlebar map switch, which features highly distinct "Hard" and "Soft" settings:
• Hard Map: The valve opens quickly and aggressively, maximizing top-end exhaust flow for riding in open terrain or low rpm where sheer horsepower is required.
• Soft Map: The ignition unit alters the valve timing, opening the exhaust port significantly later and more gradually. This creates a highly linear, tractable power curve designed to find grip on slick rocks, wet roots, or technical hard enduro terrain.

This technology which Sherco has perfected is directly responsible for Sherco’s amazing smooth torque delivery throughout the rpm range, whilst releasing instant brute power when required, not waiting for rpm to increase as in the systems used by our competition.
