STATEMENT ON THE PROPOSED 2027 KARTING PROGRAMME
On Monday 26 October 2026 MSA published a proposed programme for a combined 2027 South African Karting Championship. EMR Karting, promoter of the Rotax MAX Challenge South Africa Series since its inception in 1999, has not agreed to this proposal.
The proposal was sent to us on Friday 16 October and presented to us at an online meeting on Tuesday 20 October. We rejected it in the meeting and again in writing on Friday 23 October. It was published to the karting community three days later, despite our written objections. An updated calendar was circulated on the same day.
We are at the end of the racing season. Most competitors already own, have bought or have ordered their equipment for 2027 and have committed to their teams. Importers and dealers have ordered stock and circuits have planned their calendars.
Many of these ideas have been tried in South African and International karting before and have failed. We see little sense in repeating them. Changes of this size need proper consultation followed by reasonable notice. For karting we believe at least two years is fair.
EMR Karting will do everything possible to keep the Rotax MAX Challenge South Africa Series stable and will continue to work with MSA towards a sensible outcome. We will keep you informed.
