Porsche 911 Targa 3 L 1982 Engine Rebuild

This is a 1982 3L Porsche Tarha engine that we rebuilt.

The engine suffered from heavy breathing to the extent that then the breather pipe was connected to the air intake, the engine would not idle.

When dismantled, two pistons were found with broken top rings and ring lands, with several others having broken top rings. This is common on high mileage 911 engines where a minor ridge has formed at the top of the barrel, and big end bearing wear reaches the point where the top ring begins to impact the ridge in the barrel. One barrel was unfortunately damaged and was re-plated.

The engine was rebuilt with two replacement second hand pistons, all balanced prior to assembly.
She received new rings, bearings, valve guides and injectors. All the oil gallery plugs in the casing, and Cam boxes were removed for cleaning.

This engine, after rebuilding ran beautifully, with the only gremlin being a troublesome infamous green wire between the distributor and CDI box.
