Why Servicing Your Vehicle on Time Matters

Your vehicle might still be running perfectly, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to ignore its service date!

Regular servicing is one of the most important things you can do to keep your vehicle safe, reliable and economical. A service allows potential problems to be identified before they turn into expensive repairs, while also ensuring that essential oils, filters and other components are checked and replaced when required.

WHAT WE MEAN BY WHICHEVER COMES FIRST

This is something we often see customers getting wrong.

For many petrol vehicles, the recommended service interval is every 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first.

For many diesel vehicles, the recommended interval is every 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first.

You do NOT have to wait until the vehicle reaches the kilometre interval if a year has already passed.

For example:

If your petrol vehicle was serviced at 80,000 km in August 2025, and you have only driven another 7,000 km by August 2026, it is still due for its service.

The same applies to a diesel vehicle. Even if you have only driven 5,000 km since its last service, if 12 months have passed, it should be serviced.

Why does time matter if you haven't driven many kilometres?

Engine oil and other fluids don't simply remain perfect because the vehicle isn't being driven a lot. Over time, oil can deteriorate, moisture can accumulate, rubber components can age, and filters and other service items can become less effective.

Regular servicing also gives your mechanic the opportunity to inspect things such as:

*Brakes and brake components
*Suspension and steering
*Belts and hoses
*Fluid levels and condition
*Battery and charging system
*Filters
*Oil leaks
*Cooling system
*General wear and tear

Don't wait for a problem to tell you it's time for a service!

A service is preventative maintenance, not just something you do when the vehicle starts making a noise or warning lights appear.

Spending money on routine maintenance can save you from much larger repair bills down the road.

Our advice is simple: check your service date as well as your mileage.

🚗 Petrol: 15,000 km OR 12 months – whichever comes first
🚙 Diesel: 10,000 km OR 12 months – whichever comes first

And remember, your vehicle's manufacturer service schedule should always take priority, as some models have different intervals.

🚗 DON’T WAIT FOR YOUR CAMBELT TO SNAP! ⚠️

Your cambelt (timing belt) is one of the most important parts of your engine. It keeps the engine’s internal components moving together at exactly the right time.

🔧 Why is changing it on time so important?

Cambelts wear out with age and kilometres, even if they look perfectly fine. If a cambelt breaks, the engine can lose its timing instantly, causing internal components to collide.
