Today was still on headlights. I got mavis's headlights done. I also installed the rubber door wedges. Leandro was paint stripping and working on the Pan. I painted the steering column and a few other parts for Mavis. The stiffeners we made yesterday will look great. A nice way of hiding indicators is by installing them in the headlight.

Whilst Leandro was cleaning and grinding the welds on the new floorpan I was digging through my stash of early headlights for Div down at Rat Rods Africa. At the same time we dug out the headlights for Mavis. Since 356 Porsches had a two piece pressing for a floorpan. These were pressed in such a way that the floors form a stiffening tube running across the floor under the front seat mounts in such a way as to stiffen the floors. Standard beetle floorpans also have a stiffener which is not so obvious as it was incorporated into the deat mounts. We bent up these Pyramid shaped pieces out of 1mm sheet steel. Thes will be welded to the new floors and will complete the structural work.

Mavis came with some very strange headlights. A mix of modern aftermarket crystal light units coupled with tired 60s lenses and surrounds. I have been saving a set of early headlights for a special car and Mavis it is.

We got mavis's seats back from our local detailer and I must say i Am impressed the seats were full of grease marks and generally very filthy. They are by no means new but they are very servicable.

We had a very nice Drive your beetle to work event. 21people attended with 8 beetles and one Karmann Ghia. We Invited Uncle Gunther Berndt as our guest of Honour. Gunther came to South Africa in the early 60s as a Wolfsburg trained mechanic. The rest of us enjoyed his tales of yester year.

Today we welded in the floorpans. Leandro made more than 300 spot welds.

The technicolour engine is done only oil and Petrol to be added before we can start it.
