A fisherman's boat, rigged the way you'd rig it yourself. The Unreel is a centre console set up and ready to go and the layout is exactly why serious anglers keep coming back to it. You can work right around the boat and fight a fish from any angle, with the deck staying open and clear for exactly that.

The fishing kit is what sells it. A cat is the fishing platform most SA anglers want and this Sodwana is a good example of why. The twin hulls give you a stable, level deck to work off, a soft ride through the chop, and the safety that comes with two hulls under you. It's the kind of boat that makes a long day on the water comfortable rather than hard work.

Twin 40HP Yamahas is a sensible, economical setup, 80 horsepower combined, the reliability Yamaha is known for, and the security of a second motor to get you home if one ever plays up. On a fishing boat that redundancy matters, and twin small motors sip fuel compared to one big one.

If your fishing takes you past the backline and out to where the gamefish are, this is the boat that gets you there and just as importantly, gets you home. The Ace Glider 530 is a proper offshore and deep-sea rig, certified for deep-sea conditions, running twin Suzuki DF140B four-strokes for 280HP of combined power.

Twin engines is the whole point. Two motors means redundancy when you're twenty kilometres out and the weather turns, anyone who fishes deep will tell you the second motor isn't a luxury, it's the reason you come home. It also lets you troll at low revs on one motor and burn very little fuel doing it. And the DF140B swings a big prop thanks to the biggest gear reduction in its class, so a hull loaded with fuel, ice, tackle and four okes still climbs onto the plane properly.

The rest is set up to fish hard: a T-Top with overhead rod holders, a Lowrance fishfinder on the console, VHF for safety and a Bluetooth radio for the run home. Evadex flooring, spare wheel and motor support brackets all included.

Just landed and ready for her next owner, a stunning 2010 Odyssey 650, and honestly one of the best all-rounders on our floor. Family days, watersports, cruising, wakeboarding: this one hull genuinely does the lot.

The Odyssey name is one of the most respected in South African boating, out of the same Austral Marine yard that builds the Panache and Benguela ranges. The 650 is a big, stylish bowrider with real presence, and this example has clearly been looked after. Compact in size, massive in performance. The Moomba Mondo is a proper purpose-built wakeboard and wakesurf boat not a runabout with a tower bolted on the back for people who want serious wake without the serious size.

The heart of it is 1,300 lbs of ballast. That lets you weight the boat down and shape exactly the wake you want, and the multisport wakeplate lets you fine-tune it on the fly whether you're boarding or surfing. Power is an Indmar Assault 330hp V8 with the low-end torque to pull a rider out of the water cleanly and hold a surfer in the pocket all day and at just 342 hours it's got plenty of life ahead of it.
