⚠️ We cannot stress this enough: Fuel contamination destroys diesel fuel systems!

What starts as a small amount of water or contamination in the fuel tank can quickly turn into a very expensive repair bill. The rust visible inside this injector is a direct result of water contamination, causing internal corrosion, poor injector performance, and ultimately component failure.

Modern common rail diesel systems operate at extremely high pressures with incredibly tight tolerances. Even microscopic contamination can damage injectors, pumps, rails, and pressure control components.

Some common causes include but is not limited to:
✔ Water-contaminated fuel
✔ Poor fuel storage practices
✔ Damaged or neglected fuel filters
✔ Dirt entering the system during repairs
✔️Diesel pump shavings

Prevention is always cheaper than repair:
🔹 Replace fuel filters at the recommended intervals
🔹 Drain water traps where applicable
🔹 Use reputable fuel suppliers! (Highly Important)
🔹 Investigate any water contamination immediately
🔹Prevent driving with low fuel levels

By the time symptoms become noticeable, the damage is often already done.

These Delphi injectors are very common problems and regularly fail due to lack of knowledge and incompetence when working on vehicles with these systems. They have an extremely precise installation procedure as well.

Ford Ranger 3.0 TDCi

These injectors came in for testing after drivability concerns. Right from the initial assessment, it was clear that the injector balance was significantly out.

A few measurements later, the cause became obvious: someone had previously attempted to “fix” the injectors by increasing fuel delivery to compensate for faulty internal components. While this may seem like a solution, it actually throws the injector calibration out completely, creating an imbalance between low and high fuel delivery.

The result? Poor performance, increased fuel consumption, excessive smoke, and potential engine damage over time.

We remanufactured the injectors using brand-new quality components and then calibrated them back to manufacturer specifications on our test equipment.

Proper diagnosis and calibration will always outperform guesswork and adjustments.

Arriving at the shop we noticed they were already reconditioned elsewhere with aftermarket parts and high to over fuelling values. We replaced the parts with genuine and calibrated to specification!

Here’s one for the keyboard warriors out there 😉.

“Recon” products are often blamed when a fault reappears, but the reality is not always that simple.

These are brand-new Ford Ranger injectors on a vehicle that had barely covered any distance. As the test results show, the injectors have already failed.

At H&I Diesel, we see cases like this regularly. Replacing components without identifying the root cause can lead to repeat failures, whether the parts are new or remanufactured. Contaminated fuel systems, pump failures, poor fuel quality, debris in the rail, and underlying mechanical issues can all damage injectors in a very short time.

Modern common rail injectors operate at pressures exceeding 1600 bar. It only takes microscopic contamination to cause serious damage.

The lesson? Proper diagnosis comes before parts replacement. A technician diagnoses the cause. A parts swapper replaces components and hopes for the best.
