Synonymously known for spinning 6 to 7 laps at a spin event - It is quite clear that passion for spinning runs wild for Abie Maidi from Team Scorpion, whom we feature today on know your spinner.
1. What intrigued your interest to join this form of motorsport? And whilst we are at the beginning of spinning journey what was your first spin car?
"I grew up having love for fast cars it all started at a very young age but because it was not easy to have access to cars back then,I was doing stunts with a bicycle then move to scrambler motorbike until I started working then I bought my first car a Mazda 323 2.0 in 2003 which I was doing drag racing with some doughnuts on gravel roads. I then went to my first e30 325 m20."
2. How long have you been in spinning?
"I started spinning in 2010, I used to spin in the streets in my kasi then to my first spinning event at Rockys Drift in Nelspruit."
3. With the variety of engines for spinning which one is your favourite and is it the one you are currently running? Why that one specifically?
"I started spinning with an m20 325i then moved to a 325i m50 then to 328i m52 I am now running a Lexus v8 1uz fe 4.0 for almost 4 years, the reason I moved to Lexus is that I wanted more power for oval tracks like Mahem and Polokwane Showgrounds."
4. Most memorable spin event you have been to?
"The most memorable spinning event that I ever attended was at Mavuso Trade Center in Swaziland 21 September 2019."
5. When it is all set and done with spinning for Abie (Retire), what would you be liked to be remembered for in spinning?
"When I retire in spin everyone will remember me by the laps I always do and the help i give to every spinner when they experience break downs."
6. Would call yourself a gate crasher? An example invade an event you are not invited to?
"I always gate crushed to events for recognition back then."
7. In your own opinion. How important or valuable is it to have a team of people who assist (i.e tyre changers, mechanical failure or even cooling the car) at a spin show and what is your ideal number of team members must you have?
"It is very important to have people to assist, In my case I always take two people with me to assist in cooling the car and to change tyres."
8. Ever thought of changing a spin car model from an E30 to E36 maybe?
"I will die spinning with an e30."
9. If your spin car does not do or give you what you want it to give you, do you get anxious and how do you deal with the mental pressure spectators put on you?
"My car never gives me problems at a spin show it is always up to standard."
10. Its event day, what is the normal routine when you start doing when preparing for a spin show?
"My car is always ready after every event I make sure my car is up to standard for the next even I do not wait for an invitation to fix my car."

You are invited to a spinshow and you have just finished fixing the car on the exact day, you test test the car in the street it does not give what you want but you are eager to go to the show, what do you do ? Do you cancel or work on it till it gives you what you want?
"If that can happen, I will work on it until I get it right."
